Take a guided tour of... LinkedIn's purpose-built Dublin office after months under wraps

The professional networking firm opens the doors to its new European HQ this week.

AFTER MONTHS UNDER wraps, LinkedIn has thrown open the doors of its new European headquarters in Dublin.

The social networking site has been in the Irish capital since 2010, when it started with just three employees in the city. Now it has more than 1,200.

The new €85 million development has been the company’s new home since April, but this week marked the building’s official opening – and your first chance to get a look inside.

Recently, we’ve been doing the rounds of the local offices for some of the world’s biggest tech firms.

Squarespace showed us its hammocks, Qualtrics invited us to see its in-office Irish pub, while Twitter showed us where its in-house barista works.

Last week, LinkedIn human resources director Lisa Finnegan brought Fora on a tour of the company’s new office on Wilton Terrace ahead of a public unveiling this week.

Fora.ie / YouTube

The US professional networking firm made the move into the premises to cater for the significant increase in its planned headcount.

Last year, the company announced plans to add more than 200 staff to its Dublin office; nearly 80 of those roles are still being advertised.

The new five-storey building, which took over two years to complete, is the first office development outside the US that has been purpose-built for LinkedIn.

The office has a number of the now-routine perks commonplace for its peers – such as a canteen serving free meals daily, a gym and a games room.

However, LinkedIn’s digs also boasts a sound-proof room kitted out with instruments for any employees who prefer kicking back with a drum kit.

Like our fruity friend Apple – If I only had to pay 10% of my earnings on tax I’d have a nice gaff too with all those trimmings.

@Pa Zapa: The fact is neither nor you know how much tax LinkedIn paid, because, since 2013 they have gone unlimited so their accounts are not available to the public.

So, again, stop making up stuff. It’s like me accusing you of tax evasion, which I cannot do because i do not know how much tax you paid or what your income is.

They don’t want employees to go home…just like Facebook. Make it a very desirable workplace….and they work you to the bone!! Nice office though….sure beats the pants off the office I work in!

@Pat Butler: LinkedIn is effectively a business which is an Abstraction. The raw material is data freely provided by people themselves i.e. to promote oneself. Effectively a corporation making money out of people’s insecurity imho. But they need screen gazers and key clickers to operate and to fend off the boredom they have to pander to staff in some shape or form. Pretty sad in fact. These kids will be there into their 30s and 40s and only realize they’ve wasted their lives

I get it now. It’s fake. Work is demanded between 8 and 5, we have to feed you (also inhouse saves time rather than going out) so we might as well give you pancakes and pizza, feeling tired, there’s coffee here, here, here, here……games room for half hour after lunch, gym before or after work, selfie photos create a team feeling to make you work harder for your “team”. Ha. Reminds me of the big bang theory episode where Sheldon controls penny by feeding her chocolate at opportune times.

It would have nice if they had considered a room for tranquility and peace where could go from the stresses of work life . Though nice , some people do not like gaming rooms and need a complete break from technology.
