Child’s body recovered from Costa Concordia

Eight more bodies have been found on the stricken liner, but authorities were unable to recover them all due to worsening weather.

Updated at 7.30pm

ITALIAN DIVERS have found eight more bodies on the stricken cruise ship Costa Concordia, including the remains of a five-year-old girl who had been missing since the boat crashed last month.

Dayana Arlotti was travelling on the cruise ship with her father and his girlfriend. His girlfriend survived the incident, but he remains listed among the missing passengers.

Italy’s Civil Protection Agency said that the bodies were found on Deck 4 amid difficult operating conditions, and three – a woman, a man, and a child – were recovered within hours of being sighted. It did not identify the child’s remains, but only one child’s name was on the list of the missing.

The agency also said that five of the bodies discovered today could not be removed from the ship due to worsening weather.

The operation to remove fuel from the ship continues and there have been no signs of any serious pollution resulting from the incident.

Around 4,200 passengers and crew were on board the luxury liner when it struck rocks off the Tuscan island of Giglio, tearing a hole in the hull which caused the ship to list and capsize.

The cause of the Costa Concordia crash is still being investigated by Italian authorities and the ship’s captain remains under house arrest.

the judges and the legal profession have resisted this reform tooth and nail, leads me to think there must be something good in it, well done Ross, FG or FF would never have taken them on only for you had the balls to do challenge vested interests. new politics works, vote for the independents in the next GE to keep the main parties in line and prevent them running roughshod like the FF/Lab Govt 2011-2016, with scandals like Irish water etc
