Here’s how your take-home pay, tax and spending will change.

EARLIER TODAY, THE Minister for Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform Paschal Donohoe announced details of the Government’s Budget for 2018.

Cuts to the USC and a change in the higher tax band will leave many Irish earners with more money in their pocket, but for those wondering exactly what has changed, we’ve created TheJournal.ie‘s Budget 2018 tax calculator. You can check it out using the button below.

Have a question about what 2018′s planned cuts and increases mean for you? Tomorrow morning we’ll be chatting to KBC chief economist Austin Hughes live on Facebook at 11am, so be sure to post any queries you’d like answered in the comments below this article.

Want to ensure you’re prepared for the Budget no matter what’s announced today? Visit KBC.ie for information on current accounts, savings accounts, loans, mortgages, insurance, credit cards, student accounts and a series of handy calculators.

Before any budget details are released there will only be 1 winner and that will be the government who will give a little with one hand as they take more with the other

@tom: Don’t forget ‘the government’ are us.
Money we give over (and I’m being idealistic) is used to pay for services and infrastructure which we all use.
How good any particular ministers and civil servants are at getting value for that money is something that could be debated to infinity.

@Fozz: “used to pay for services and infrastructure which we all use.”

Infrastructure maybe, But every decent road in the country has a toll on it, We pay for most services that were covered by tax in the first place all because we had to bail out criminal bankers. The only way we can avail of services is by having kids or losing our jobs. Not in any way a fair society.

@Rob Cahill: I am sick and tired of paying for all the scrotes in this country, the blaggards who sit on their holes, the wasters, the black economy workers and then paying a double taxes for everything else. I work my balls off 50hrs a week so the govt can pay wasters to sit at home and the Health Service to squander millions on middle management rather than doctors and nurses. Over 50% of my salary gone before I pay a sugar tax on a bottle of coke. Should be reducing dole by €5 a week and giving it to the people who have bailed this country out.

Very disappointing for the almost 65% of parents who would prefer to stay home to mind their children. Mor money to Túsla and nothing for them. Surely the Government could have given some support to this section.

So the increase in rubbish collection will be a matter for the private sector? Just another tax, the government penalizing urban dwellers over people who live in the country. Companies should have to bid on routes not be able to pick off, one off customers.

Increase in Minimum Wage seems great, until you realize that Minimum Wage workers now enter the PRSI bracket, and will only earn €3 extra a week. Funny how they didn’t mention that when they said they were increasing the 2% USC rate so it wouldn’t hit those on minimum wage.

KBC – sort out your overcharged tracker customers. You would be down like a ton of bricks if punters owed you money.
