Dublin Fire Brigade to use drones 'extensively' in the run up to Halloween

It will also use a live feed showing bonfires and other incidents similar to the one used for Storm Ophelia.

DUBLIN FIRE BRIGADE (DFB) has said that it is ready to deploy drones if any buildings catch fire due to Halloween bonfires.

It said that there has been an increased number of bonfires being lit and prepared ahead of the Halloween bank holiday weekend.

A spokesperson for DFB told TheJournal.ie that it will be “using drones extensively in the run up to Halloween with the increased number of larger fires we will be attending”.

They added: “At the moment, there are no plans to use them specifically for bonfires on Halloween night.

If a building caught fire from a bonfire, the FLIR equipped drone would likely be used. We will have three IAA qualified drone pilots on duty on Halloween night.

DFB has also said it will use a live feed showing bonfire and other related incidents on the night, similar to how it did for Storm Ophelia.

Dublin City Council has asked members of the public to report the stockpiling of bonfire materials ahead of Halloween.

Simon Brock, of Dublin City Council’s Waste Management Services, said: “We are asking you to report incidents of stockpiling of bonfire material to us as soon as possible so we can remove the material and avoid the risk of serious injury and damage to our environment over the Halloween period.”

The council said it removed in excess of 420 tonnes of bonfire materials during the Halloween period last year, after receiving 280 reports from the public of stockpiling taking place.

An old Irish tradition bites the dust.
What are the facts? There are always claims of potential damage very few facts. We always had bonfires they are not as dangerous as made out.
Safety police should be encouraging safe bonfires not blanket ban! Ignorance prevails thanks to over zealous do_ gooders

@Aidan Conway: Tradition my arse. A factory burned to the ground in Drogheda three years ago by little tykes gathering bonfire material. Animals terrified by fireworks in the weeks before and after Halloween by people who do not have to get up early every day. A&E Departments full to bursting with idiots with burns and other injuries. It’s like bare knuckle boxing, a stupid activity for people with too much time on their hands !

A lot of the Halloween bonfires are taken over by the less intelligent that ruin it for everyone else and they let them get out of control that do affect the areas around. I pity the fire brigade for all the shit that they have to put up with on that night.
