House of Cards production suspended following Kevin Spacey sexual assault allegations

It was also reported today that Kevin Spacey will not receive a special Emmy award in the wake of the allegations

PRODUCTION OF NEXT season’s award-winning House of Cards series has been suspended indefinitely in the wake of sexual misconduct allegations against its star Kevin Spacey, Netflix announced today.

Media Rights Capital and Netflix said the suspension was “until further notice, to give us time to review the current situation and to address any concerns of our cast and crew.”

Yesterday, it was announced that the upcoming season of House of Cards would be the last one. The announcement came in the wake of allegations that Kevin Spacey sexually assaulted a 14-year-old boy at a party in the 1980s.

However, according to the Hollywood Reporter, the cancellation of the show has been in the works since the summer.

The last 13 episodes of the series were due to air in 2018.

Emmy Awards

It was also reported earlier today that Spacey will now not receive an international Emmy award following the allegations.

The Emmys confirmed the news in a statement published on its website last night.

Spacey was supposed to receive the International Emmy Founders Award next month. It was announced back in August that Spacey would be recognised as “one of the great multi-dimensional talents” who “crosses cultural boundaries to touch humanity”.

The statement read: “The International Academy has announced today that in light of recent events it will not honor Kevin Spacey with the 2017 International Emmy Founders Award.”

Spacey was accused by Star Trek: Discovery actor Anthony Rapp of making a sexual advance on him at a party in 1986.

At the time Rapp was just 14 years old, while Spacey was 26.

Spacey responded to the allegations via his Twitter account, and said that while he has no memory of the encounter, “if I did behave then as he describes, I owe him the sincerest apology for what would have been deeply inappropriate drunken behaviour”.

The Twitter response came after Rapp gave an interview to Buzzfeed News in which he made the allegation.

58-year-old Spacey went on say that Rapp’s accusation “encouraged me to address other things about my life”.

The two-time Oscar winner has zealously guarded his private life throughout his years in the Hollywood spotlight.

@Regular John: You definitely need a hobby and to connect with nature and the human experience like Van Gogh did.

@Andy Preneur: “Chaos Theory” is a political strategy used in political campaigns by politicians that have embarrassing/destructive policies that they are embarrassed to put in front of the public. Being against everything that works and advocating revolution and chaos is their last resort. Our educated citizens are not falling for it
