Bewley's Grafton Street opened its doors again today (just in time for elevenses)

It’s been closed for almost three years during a massive refurbishment.

BEWLEY’S GRAFTON STREET reopened to the public at 11am this morning – after being closed for almost three years.

The multi-million euro refurbishment of the landmark cafe sees the return of the iconic stained-glass windows and open fireplaces – but table service has also been introduced throughout the cafe.

The ground floor opened its doors again today, with the rest of the establishment due to open next spring.

“Something unique in the character of Dublin has been missing,” said Paddy Campbell of Bewley’s. “I’m thrilled it’s back.”

Thrilled that this was spared from Starbucks or any other big chain. It looks fantastic, can’t wait to get that smell of coffee and cakes when you walk through the door.

@Olive Whyte: its not like they treated staff any bettet than a chain did. The fired a lot of people when they closed and stringed them on for a while too.

@Michael Fehily: My Dad, Noel Purcell recorded that. Bewley’s used to play it at Christmas time.

I have no problem with people working hard to become a brand, but the likes of star bucks only come popular due to coroption. Cites should have designated areas were only independent business can operate.

So the buskers have been allowed back in with their ear bursting drivel

Apart from that, hasn’t that place been closed longer than it’s been open – give it 6 months and closed again
