The 5 at 5 Five minutes, five stories, five o’clock…

EVERY WEEKDAY EVENING, TheJournal.ie brings you the five biggest stories of the day.

1. #RAIL STRIKE: The second of five planned strikes by Irish Rail staff is taking place today.

2. #LEINSTER HOUSE: Female politicians have said that while the Dáil is no Westminster, it is a boys’ club.

3. #SHOTS FIRED: Gardaí have arrested three men after a shotgun was fired during a Garda pursuit.

4. #POPPY: Taoiseach Leo Varadkar was seen sporting a “shamrock poppy” in the Dáil today. The lapel pin commemorates Irish people who died serving in the British armed forces.

5. #FOOD SAFETY:  An Indian takeaway in Donegal was closed after a “pond of human excrement” was found in the kitchen.

This government seems to have no problem passing laws that have great potential to expose citizens to danger and deny them rights, but when it comes to introducing laws to enhance citizens’ accessibility to social goods, such as housing etc, they find any amount of barriers to use as excuses to do nothing.

@McMahon G: Forty million Canadians wouldn’t agree. I see it as a basic right that people are entitled to ask for. Who would want to suffer needlessly? We wouldn’t do it to a pet.

Funny how evertime ffg are presented with a situation that will clash with Catholic ethos, They deflect and kick the issue down the road. This is cowardice of the highest kind and something a person who claims to be capable enough to represent citizens , Should never do, thats if they had an once of integrity.
