John Lewis/YouTube

The John Lewis Christmas ad is here, starring Moz the Monster

The ad features a cover of the Beatles song Golden Slumbers by Elbow.

YES, IT’S STILL a little too early to be throwing the ‘C-word’ around.

But we’ll make an exception today for the John Lewis Christmas advert, which was released at 8am this morning.

The previous two years have featured Buster the boxer dog, and Monty the penguin, but this year’s ad features a different kind of creature: Moz the Monster.

The featured song is an Elbow cover of Golden Slumbers by The Beatles, contrary to previous speculation that the song would be Last Christmas in honour of George Michael’s memory.

You can watch the advert here:

John Lewis / YouTube

The high-end British department store has built a name for itself through releasing emotive, imaginative adverts that revolve around family and friendship during the festive season, and has gathered a lot of attention in the past few years that it’s been released.

Earlier this month, a source from John Lewis told OK magazine that “the creative team behind the John Lewis advert have pulled out all the stops this year. It’s going to be like nothing they’ve ever done before and will be a million miles away from Buster the Boxer.”

The feedback has been a bit mixed so far, with one commenter saying that John Lewis has set the standard too high with previous adverts, and they expected more for a budget of £7 million.

What do you think of this year’s ad? Give us your critique in the comments below.

Well if anyone should know of ” being robbed” it’s fair to say he and his colleagues in Leinster House have the inside track on that. They have being robbing the greater general public over the years when it comes to excise duties/V.A.T./health care/housing needs/utilities costs. I just give up

@sean o’dhubhghaill: never mentioned reducing taxes but when they are put to the sword they can reduce vat and excise. These are just forms of stealth taxes. Let’s look at for instance the local property tax. You save hard to get your foot on the property ladder and the government over night say , thank you for not being a burden on the government and keeping utility companies going , keeping insurance companies going , keeping the financial institutions going , and to thank you we want to tax your property

The very fact that the Banshees received so many nominations in the first place was a mystery to me. I know rural people and no way would anyone I know especially a musician would cut off their fingers over a person who was getting on their nerves. The portrayal of the Garda was also bizarre . Barry Keoghan did deserve his award ,he is a superb actor. My favour film was An Caitlin Ciuin . As for Everything ,Everywhere all at once ,it was well named , it drove me mad ,I had to turn it off , my head was spinning. As I have shown , it’s all a matter of taste.

@Aine O Connor: Spot on. In both elements. The only positive to come out of the dreary, incompressible, single brain cell Banshees is the superb landscape of the blessed Irish west coast, surely never before seen so magnificently on a cinema screen. The Irish Tourist Board must be dancing a jig,and rightly so. No swollen tourism marketing budget could have delivered such positive international publicity.

This photo op has to be a stitch up. Almost to a tee, straight from Father Ted. Where a bumbling Irish community representative makes a fool of himself, in a room of Chinese, beside a projector screen. No coincidence that Father Ted and Banshees of Inisherin are packed with Irish talent and produced by Chanel 4 money.

Robbed…? Nobody was robbed,It’s just that nobody from outside of Ireland thought that this Arty Farty bunkum was any good.Despite the woke media blitz level of promotion the film got in this country they obviously failed to have any impact internationally. Hopefully it will finally go away now.
