DUBLIN HAS COME 47th in a survey of the top 51 cities in the world to emigrate to.
Compiled by expat community InterNations, 13,000 people had their say with Dublin only coming ahead of Riyadh, Paris, Jeddah and Lagos in the rankings.
The survey ranked cities on a variety of factors, including how easy it is to get settled, finding a job, and how expensive it is to live and find a home.
Dublin is singled out for its housing crisis and soaring living expenses in the survey.
It said: “Both Dublin and Stockholm perform poorly regarding finance, but housing is also the biggest hardship in the Irish capital. Dublin does even worse than Stockholm concerning affordable housing: almost four out ten expats (39%) consider housing extremely expensive.
In general, Dublin’s local cost of living poses some major problems: 71% of all expats rate it negatively. No wonder that one in six expats (16%) thinks their household income isn’t nearly enough to cover their daily expenses.
The issue of housing has been thrust into the spotlight in recent days, with comments made by Taoiseach Leo Varadkar and Eileen Gleeson of the Dublin Region Homeless Executive drawing the ire of activists.
According to the latest figures from Daft.ie, the average cost of rent in Ireland has never ever been higher.
Ireland is only second to the Swedish capital in this index for availability of housing and, on the other end of the scale, it is Berlin and Prague that leads the way in affordability and availability of housing according to the survey.
Overall the city of Manama in Bahrain emerged as the number one destination for people to emigrate to, followed by Prague, Madrid, Kuala Lumpur and Amsterdam.
These places rank high for friendliness, and also for career prospects.
Amsterdam, Manama and Cape Town also feature high in the ranking on the quality of the social life.

This is not new research. Any basic textbook on evolutionary psychology covers this well worn knowledge. Eh what’s new????
Agreed. I’ve read about this exact mechanism many times before. Dawkins discusses it at length. I suspect they ran a bunch of experiments to establish an exact model and it saben picked up as new research.
I remember my parents telling me “Stick out your tongue so I can check you are not telling a lie”. The story behind it was that a black mark appeared on your tongue if you we’re being ‘economical with the truth’!!!!!!!!!!!
