So every year i try and give up the beer for a few months. Going back to work still half hung over from new years eve, the depression sets in and i have to go for a few pints the first week in January. So this year i gave up drinking the day after Steven’s day, I’ll be fresh now going back to work and hopefully I’ll stay off it till Paddy’s day…. That’s my plan any way!

@Jamie Jj Tobin: Sounds like a plan dude. You’ve already done the difficult bit by giving it up already. I know Jan is hard and depressing but really try and stick to your goal. I know it’s hard but you’ll save money, lose weight and you’ll just generally feel better. You can do it. Believe

@Gareth Wogan: Cheers. I have been telling every one the way I have stopped drinking in the middle of Christmas and they say your not drinking new years eve!. Wow that’s hard core cold turkey to do that! Its help me even more to know its not the norm in our society to do what I’ve done.

Best of luck. I gave up about 2 months ago. The hardest part is actually justifying to those around you that youre not a freak for being sober, such is the mentality of our society at times!

@Carl: What is it about so many Irish people? If you want to stop drinking, then just stop.No big deal.I love a few pints but could,& have given up any time I choose. How about moderation? Why are Irish people allergic to this word? Drink or don’t drink.Don’t make a big deal of it.

I don’t make resolutions for myself (don’t need to), but I do make them for my friends and family. It’s usually a list of between 10 and 15 ways they can improve themselves in the New Year. They’re always very grateful, I really am a fantastic friend and family member.

@Dave O Keeffe: come on Dave a little positivity please. Everything is life is that simple but the reality is different.

Jamie, I took up a bit of running a couple of years back after Xmas. Just do a 5km circuit 3 times a week and aim for better timings. Did wonders for me and alas I have to start again this week. Funnily enough a fit bit type device and a phone app were little additions to support it. Have a goal – that’s the key – be it weight, fitness. And have a way to measure it. Enjoy.

I already have 10 resolutions for the New Year:

    1) Spend less time on World of Warcraft forums
    2) Spend even more time researching the Real News on 4Chan, Infowars, YouTube comments sections, The Daily Mail and Breitbart
    3) Share my findings on The Journal to help the fight against liberal looney left Fake News
    4) Get a new router so I can get better wi-fi in my Mom’s basement
    5) Take twice as many comedy classes as I did in 2017
    6) Write even more letters to my hero Milo Yiannopoulos
    7) Read Steve Bannon’s autobiography for the 12th time
    8) Do some fund-raising for Identity Ireland
    9) Finish my life-size painting of Donald Trump
    10) Set up another 50 Twitter accounts

The large numbers of people who shun self discipline is interesting in an age of obesity, alcohol gluttony, drug addiction, failure to save deposits to avoid homeliness, strategic welfare dependency and lack of pension saving.

After hip surgery on December 21st my New Years resolution is to go through proper physio and rehab so that by this time next year I can walk a 5K without feeling like my hip is dislocating. On December 20th 2017 I could only walk 200 metres. A challenge but worth it in the long haul!!!
