1. #MINI BUDGET: Ireland may need to introduce a mini-budget later this year if the economies of our main trading partners slide further into recession, according to a new report by the European Commission. The Commission also confirmed the release of €5.8 billion in bailout funds has been authorised.
2. #COURTS: Ian Bailey has won his Supreme Court appeal against his extradition to France for questioning over the death of Sophie Toscan du Plantier, who was murdered in West Cork on 23 December 1996.
3. #SYRIA: Senior UN envoy Valerie Amos has been refused entry to Syria despite repeated requests for the UN official to meet with Syrian leaders to discuss the escalating violence and deteriorating humanitarian situation. Meanwhile, Syria’s main opposition group has formed a military council to organise opposition to President Assad’s regime.
4. #ELECTRIC PICNIC: This year’s line-up for the Stradbally-based festival has been released and includes The Cure, Sigur Rós, Christy Moore, Orbital and Elbow. Tickets go on sale tomorrow at 9am.
