13 Bosnian Muslims arrested over 1990s war crimes

The 13 are suspected of “murders, torture, rapes, persecutions and expulsions” of civilians.

BOSNIAN POLICE ARRESTED 13 Muslim citizens suspected of war crimes against ethnic Serbs in the south of the Balkan country during the 1992-1995 civil war.

“These are former officials of the Bosnian army, territorial defence (forces) and the interior ministry, suspected of war crimes committed against several dozen Serbs” in the Konjic region, the prosecutor’s office said in a statement.

The 13 are suspected of “murders, torture, rapes, persecutions and expulsions” of civilians, the statement said.

Police said they had arrested the suspects in Konjic and the capital Sarajevo.

Last month Edhem Zilic, a former member of Bosnian Muslim forces who served as an official at a detention camp for Serbs in Konjic during the war, was sentenced to nine years in prison by a Sarajevo court.

Bosnia’s inter-ethnic war claimed 100,000 lives, while 2.2 million people were displaced.

Its good to see this happen. Serbia was most definitely a horrible monster is this war but to leave the other sides off without any accountability is in my view wrong. Its also important to recognise Europe’s impotence in dealing with this war & the fact that a European power was responsible for Srebrenica is something that should also be recognised & that it was the US intervention that protected the Muslim enclave in the former Yugoslavia & the US never got one bit of gratitude for it. The US has done many bad things but Muslims in this part of the world would not exist but for its actions.

@Mjhint: Yes US airforce intervention from President Clinton saved the Muslims in Saravoja…..Croatia is in EU and soon in Euro but never gets blamed for expulsion of 600000 ethnic Serbs from Croatia to Serbia over a few weeks in 1992….

@Mjhint: other sides have not been let off – Bosnian Croat who killed himself in The Hague! Many people from all sides have been prosecuted by ICTY but will now be done on home ground as ICTY is finishing this year. After my time there I would question any real justice being done on home ground.

@John003: Serbia is on its way, even when it does it’s best to mess with BiHs chances through its dealings in the RS

That’s progress. Many people had called it all a one handed deal lately so any levelling is good.
On the subject, they should keep this court busy with returning Jihadis from Syria and Iraq instead of giving them nice warm homes, flannel pyjamas, cocoa, bedtime story and hugs. The whole story of the Yazidis and others seems to be in the laundry.

@Patrick J. O’Rourke: Some details. If they ignore it then the credibility of the ICC should go down the pan.

A dirty war with horrific atrocities perpetrated by all sides.
Hopefully all those personally involved in war crimes will be held accountable.
