  • A total of 145  new jobs were announced today, with 110 at a technology firm in Galway and Dublin and 35 at Western Union.
  • Meanwhile, it’s emerged that more than 12,000 people attended the Working Abroad Expo held over the weekend at Dublin’s RDS, with 250 jobs reportedly offered. Organisers were forced to close the doors early yesterday as the crowds were so large.
  • Mum-of-one Ann Cronin has written for TheJournal.ie about how she attended the event hoping for opportunities abroad, but found a window on today’s Ireland – and the view wasn’t pleasant.
  • The outcome of the Russian presidential election won by Vladimir Putin was “never in doubt”, according to an Irish TD who observed the vote. Eoghan Murphy toldTheJournal.ie about the election arrangements that ensured Putin’s victory.
  • Where are all the attractive men? Traveler’s Digest has published a list of the top ten cities for fine-lookin’ fellas.
  • A fire broke out today at the well-known Bang restaurant in Dublin, formerly owned by socialite brothers Simon and Christian Stokes. We’ve got pictures of the scenes as firefighters battled the blaze.
  • Protesters gathered outside the Dáil today in support of… cats. They even brought costumes.
  • As ever, we’ve been tackling the big* questions that really matter to you. Today: How do you butter your toast? *small
  • And finally: Want to see a dog playing Veggie Samurai on the iPad? Of course you do:

What’s a RIB doing out so late at night? Why didn’t it have a chart, a GPS, VHF and a depth sounder? Why didn’t they phone for help? In Ireland and the UK, as opposed to the rest of Europe, any fool can drive a RIB. No licence is needed and no training. It’s about time that stopped.

I suspect there was some bevvies involved! Lots of people have done that en route back from town by night. It’s a very tight channel. Why the need for all the drama? Put out an anchor and wait for the tide to re float the boat (which is essentially what the lifeboat did). Foolish getting into the mud to push off, as you can sink into it. I bet they’re embarrassed today.

They ran aground? So getting out and f*cking walking wasn’t an option?

I’m sure that was in their initial plan Niall but what you obviously aren’t aware of is that the mud is several Metres thick so it would have been suicide to just “walk” off
