Met Éireann updates weather warning with gusts set to reach up to 110km/h

There is also a risk of sleet and snow again in some areas today.

Updated 10.30am

THERE ARE TWO weather warnings in place as we’re set for a very wet and windy day.

A Status Yellow wind warning that had already been put in place has been upgraded, with Donegal, Galway, Mayo, Clare, Cork, Kerry and Limerick all set to be hit.

Met Éireann said that west to south-west winds will veer west to north-west with mean speeds of around 50 to 65km/h, with gusts between 90 and 110km/h.

It also forecast that winds may be possibly higher this evening for a time along western coastal areas.

There is also a snow-ice warning countrywide, with widespread heavy and thundery showers today and tomorrow set to produce hail, sleet and snow at times. This is expected to lead to accumulations of ice on untreated surfaces.

Both of these warnings will remain in place until late Thursday evening.

AA Roadwatch is advising motorists to “remember stopping distances are up to ten times longer in ice and snow, so keep extra space between your vehicle and the one in front”.

In Wicklow, particularly, gardaí are advising motorists to take extreme caution around the Sally Gap and Glendalough due to poor road conditions. It advises people to use alternative routes wherever possible.

Temperatures will only reach as high as 5 degrees generally today, although it could get as high as 8 degrees along southern coastal fringes.

Frequent showers today may be heavy and prolonged, with a risk of hail and thunder this afternoon.

Temperatures will range between 0 and 4 degrees overnight, with a risk of frost in some areas.

Tomorrow will follow a similar pattern, until it gets colder again on Thursday night and into Friday.

Met Éireann has also forecast, however, that it’s set to get milder again this weekend.

They’re also going to need a replacement-replacement bus service contract, in case the replacement bus service goes on strike or has operational issues.
And then of course they’ll need a replacement-replacement-replacement bus service…….

@Louise Ní Riain: No, at the moment when there is work on the train line, Dublin Bus drive from staition to station to make sure nobody is stuck. Instead they’re going to get a private service to do it.

I’d be very happy if they also improved the already dismal inter City bus service. I traveled to Sligo recently, from Galway. Took almost 3 hours to get there. If the bus was put through the NCT, it would not have been deemed save. A total upgrade has to happen.

Be great if they’d put new track in or have a commuter plan or do anything with some foresight.
