DEARCÁN NA NDAOINE – The People’s Acorn – was unveiled in Áras an Uachtaráin today by President Michael D Higgins.
Part of the State 1916 centenary commemorations, the art sculpture by Rachel Joynt contains a time capsule that will not be opened till 2116.
Children from 7 schools around Ireland contributed their thoughts and wishes for Ireland’s future inside the capsule, as did older people who wrote down their thoughts and memories.
At the unveiling President Higgins said:
“I hope that what we have achieved with this commemorative work is a fitting tribute to the memory and vision of the signatories of the Proclamation, and all those who stood with them. It is, I think, both an accolade to our shared past and a beacon for a brighter future.”

You’d have to say that all those recent polls asking people is they wanted michael D to do a second term is like the nudge theory from the guy who won the noble prize for, this year, if you offer them one option, they’ll take the one option because there is no other.
