GARDAÍ IN DUBLIN are investigating the sudden death of an on-duty taxi driver on James’ Street in the early hours of Sunday morning.
It is understood the man became unwell after an incident with a fare at around 4.30am.
He was treated at the scene and brought by ambulance to St James’ Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
His body has been taken to the Dublin City Mortuary where a post-mortem has taken place.
Gardaí have confirmed that they are treating the case as a sudden death and a file will be prepared for the coroner.

@Tomas: A bit of a presumptuous comment to make on a public forum. You have heard of people taking sudden heart attacks and dying? It’s not uncommon.

Condolences to the mans family. Terrible that someone who goes out to earn a living to support his kin then doesn’t return home.
So the article states that he became unwell after an incident with a fare and died a short time later bit the gards are treating it as a sudden death? That doesn’t make sense to me. Was it a sudden death or was the incident the cause? Was there a shouting match or pushing and shoving and the man died due to heart attack or a head injury?

It is time for the NTA (National Transport Authority) to introduce Glass Screen Protection between Taxi Drivers and Passengers. This will help prevent passengers having direct attack or contact with the Drivers…..Similar to the London Black Cabs. In that case, passengers can only use the back seats. The driver can then be secured and protected…..most especially those drivers that work at Night….. N.T.A please take immediate action to save life’s of Taxi Drivers.
Time for screens in all Taxis.And CCTV.This poor man had a row with 2 thugs and now he’s dead.

Hayley ,had the Taxi driver any injuries before he had a heart attack..is anyone been questioned or potential charges pending..rumours of stabbing?Was he assaulted in any way..
So sad,May his loving soul find rest in the Lord and may the good Lord grant his entire family the fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss

@Ireland Just shoot me: I’m not making stuff up,right outside d spar on James St, he was driving himself to d hospital and collapsed. Don’t know where the altercation happened
@Mark o regan: well if that is the case Garda need to wake up , it would not be a sudden death, rather death as a result of stab wounds, it also says, file will be prepared for the coroner. not the DPP.

I hope der was CCTV in d taxi,and Des animals are caught very fast.only d last 2 weeks I’m reading articles about attacks on taxi drivers and most recent said der was actually gonna be Garda escorts if the driver felt it was needed.a driver going out to work and not returning is frightening! RIP and thoughts are with his family

Sudden death, please tell that to the birds!
This news is incomplete. Taxi driver dies as a result of incident with fare…… It means, he was attacked and probably stabbed . His phone was probably taken from him that there was no way he could phone….that was why he was driving himself to James Hospital. If stabbing was the case, there must be blood inside the car…..if it is other form of attacked, the result will be reveal following the coroners report. Thanks
