Gardaí seize €50k worth of counterfeit designer and sports clothing at Fairyhouse Market

Gardaí seized goods being sold which were priced at the market in excess of €50,000.

GARDAÍ HAVE SEIZED counterfeit goods worth an estimated €50,000 during an operation in Fairyhouse Market, Meath.

The operation was carried out by gardaí from the Meath division, supported by Revenue’s Customs Officers.

With the assistance of brand agents representing 20 different companies, gardaí identified a number of stalls dealing in alleged counterfeit goods.

Gardaí seized goods being sold which were priced at the market in excess of €50,000 and which would have a value if genuine of in excess of €300,000.

The seizure included large amounts of sports clothing, designer handbags, watches, designer clothing and designer accessories.

The branded goods seized were counterfeit or copies of the following brands: Adidas, Nike, Calvin Klein, Ted Baker, North Face, Hollister, Canada Goose, Moncler, Michael Kors, Louis Vuitton, Abercrombie and Fitch, Under Armour, Superdry, Hugo Boss, and Rolex.

No arrests were made during the operation.

A file is currently being prepared at Ashbourne District for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

@Sean Higgins: And the funny thing is about this, the stuff isn’t ‘fake’ it’s real, an Indian friend of mine told me, that when Nike etc.. place an order with a factory for production, the factory makes 10% extra regardless to allow for any rejects. So, do you think Nike etc.. just throw away the rejects? No, they don’t they sell them off cheaper and this is how markets end up with this stuff, it’s basically not fit for the shops, hence, it been cheaper and worse looking.

    @Dave.: No, they are fake.

    You are suggesting that
A, Nike sell their own branded but rejected stock to other sellers thus permitting them to be sold as Nike products which would reduce consumer confidence and reduce their own sales as a result and

B, then lodge complaints against the companies they sold the items to.

Do you see how stupid your theory is? There’s fakes made in the same places as the original, that’s true but they most certainly are not permitted into the market by the brand owner.

Also, please note that some fake items are sold as original but are over l inferior and regarding electronics, etc can be dangerous

@David Conroy: Actually that’s true about tradesmen never selling tools.. They’ll pass old stuff to apprentices/GO’s who’ll pass them on until eventually they die. I cleaned out my granduncles place after he died a few years back and he’d stuff from year dot.. and now it’s gathering dust in my shed. Some of it’s being eyed up by lads I know who are into antique tools.. but I guarantee it’ll never end up in a boot sale… at least not legally anyway..

I was at the market today and observed all the gardai whom I have the height of respect for but on seeing this news it’s a disgrace what happened in Fairyhouse today. I observed Two Garda interviewing an Indian man who sells workwear jackets to ordinary working people which clothing I now presume are socalled ” counterfeit” because they haven’t got Tommy Hillfiger etc etc written on them. This is a National waste of taxpayers money at the behest of Multinational brand names with no interest only exorbitant prices for products which are coming out of the same factories but stitching on different labels by the cheapest labour.

The questions that need to be answered are
    1 Who initiated this raid?
2 Had the “Brands” interests an active part in this sledgehammer of an operation to get €50000 alleged worth of clothing.
3 How much did it cost to carry out this operation.

There were 3 Fancy Garda vehicles at the South entrance. 3 at the main entrance Vans and vehicles inside the racecourse property. many personnel including one fully armed Garda.
If it was an operation to recover stolen goods absolutely great but no it was to protect the interests of Adidas, Nike, Calvin Klein, Ted Baker, North Face, Hollister, Canada Goose, Moncler, Michael Kors, Louis Vuitton, Abercrombie and Fitch, Under Armour, Superdry, Hugo Boss, and Rolex.

Shame on whoever instigated this operation at the behest of such despicable companies who are the REAL counterfeiters.

I’ve been attending Fairyhouse market for many years and for the most part it’s populated by decent traders and decent customers.

Surely such a well organised “raid” could be made on far more delinquent members of our society.
