MET ÉIREANN HAS issued a weather advisory warning people that there will be “exceptionally cold” weather next week.

“Significant wind chill and severe frosts” are expected.

“Disruptive snow showers are expected from Tuesday onwards, particularly in the east and southeast,” Met Éireann said.

The advisory kicked in shortly after noon today and will remain in place until midday next Friday, 2 March. Met Éireann said snow and ice warnings will be issued “nearer the event”.

It’s expected be very cold on Monday night, with a severe frost and the risk of snow showers along northern and eastern coasts. Temperatures will dip to minus four degrees Celsius.

It will turn progressively colder from Tuesday onwards with severe frosts and snow showers becoming more widespread. Some “disruptive” accumulations of snow are likely, especially in the east and southeast.

I’m done with the cold now – it can bugger off. It’s nearly March and I’d like to feel my fingers again now thanks.

So much for ‘global warming’ – oh, wait, they changed it to ‘climate change’ when it suited the scaremongering better.

@Dara O’Brien: In fact it was a massive unprecedented stratospheric polar, warming event that caused this weather system to become displaced from northern latitudes where it belongs. The East coast of US is currently experiencing unprecedented high temperatures, 10 C above seasonal average.

    https://thinkprogress.org/february-record-breaking-temperatures-faed2dcf217b/

And they didn’t change the name of anything. Climate change and global warming are 2 distinct terms. In the same way that ‘climate’ and ‘weather’ are not the same thing.

“So much for ‘global warming’ – oh, wait, they changed it to ‘climate change’ when it suited the scaremongering better.”

Its still Global Warming, as the world continues to warm.

They changed it to climate change because people like yourself were unable to wrap your head around the fact that just because its cold where you are does not mean it is cold everywhere.

The results of a warming globe include a shift in what would be the norm for regional weather patterns.

So yes, its cold here now. Yet year on year globally the temperature has been creeping up and all sorts of new records are being set.

But lets not bother with fact. Clearly its all just scaremongering as its going to be cold next week.

@Dara O’Brien: The Climate Change debate on the Internet is an example of two sides where one is backed by science, evidence and a method…while the other is touted by the unscientific, the vested interests in today’s profits and their mouthpieces. It relies on the poorly edcated people to lap up the nonsense and misinformation and this tactic unfortunately works on some poeple.

The fact that some people think it’s a two-sided debate is down to their own ignorance, willful or otherwise.

And I apologse for even using the word ‘debate’ in this regard.

Lads, why are you getting your knickers in such a knot! I happen to hold an opinion that I’ve yet to see enough evidence to convince me that our climate changing is a direct result of human activity and not just a natural progression.

If I recall correctly, the world had an ice age a few millennia ago and the dinosaurs didn’t drive diesel volkswagens did they?

As for the ‘Trump supporter’ comment – that’s just a lazy Godwin’s law of the ages. I’d be too left to ever support a Republican, not that this has any bearing on a climate change discussion.

@David Kly: it saddens me that you’re depressed – especially when it’s for no good reason.

I’m not stating that the climate/weather is changing. What I’m saying is that there’s no irrefutable evidence I’ve seen to prove that this is being caused by human activity and not just a natural cycle of the earth, as happened a few thousand years ago – before humans were around.

Decisions are being made which have very real consequences on taxation, income and many other aspects of life with no definite basis. We now have a proliferation of electric cars where the battery manufacturing process is having a severe impact on natural resources.

Until there’s proof that this isn’t a natural cycle that can’t be stopped by expensive and arduous behavioral changes, I’d rather the status quo.

This is going to be alot worse than most people realise. All 5 of the major weather models in Europe are now in agreement for a very serious weather event for Ireland. The country will come to a standstill over the next 7 to 10 days beginning on Tuesday next.Significant sustained snowfalls are expected and some places could see up to 40 mm especially the east of the country.Comparisons are been made with the winter of 1947 on weather forums.Met Eireann have been holding back all week despite the forecasts of all other major models.I expect Met Eireann will issue the highest possible red alert in the coming days.

@John003: 97% of CLIMATE scientists entertain the co2 theory so they can get funding money. This is how real scientists work :

@Joe Caulfield: This is not proven just a theory climate change is real. Global warming refers to the whole world warming up in general not just Ireland and it also implies that we go through weather extremes more often stop throwing out this fake news just because you haven’t done your homework anybody can watch a video and make a claim. Your honestly as bad as the flat earthers but you’ve just got more real proof for your point. Again this does not make it true but no point trying to prove you wrong.

Here we go again, It’s winter so expect winter weather. We are so lucky in Ireland that we do not get any extremes in weather. But why do ‘mit eireann’, & RTE try to make ordinary weather at this time of year the biggest story of the year. I think to draw people to their website(s). Remember the shutdown last October with ‘I feel ya’ another joke’ which all bought in to. Cop on, as most folk like me that work outdoors will know, YOU know when bad weather is coming.
