That’s all well and good, but millions of us drive daily with seats too high or far bar, hands too high on the steering wheel, and our rear-view mirrors misaligned.
So how should it be done?
Here’s what a perfect driver position should look like – and how to know if you’re getting it wrong…
1. Hands at nine and three
You’ve probably had ‘hands at ten and two’ drilled into you for years, but road safety experts now reckon our hands should be a little lower, at nine and three.
This position ensures that your hands do not obstruct the driver airbag, gives you more control when steering and makes manoeuvring the car easier.
2. Arms loose, not locked
You arms shouldn’t lock when holding and turning the steering wheel. Place your wrists on the steering wheel and adjust your seat and the wheel so that your wrists can comfortably rest there, with your shoulders against the seat back.
3. Knees slightly bent and higher than hips
Just like your arms, your legs should never be fully straight while driving. Locked limbs are more prone to fractures and breaks during an impact.
To figure out the right position, fully press in the clutch and brake pedals to the to the floor while the car is off. Adjust your seat forwards, backwards, up and down until your knees have a slight bend in them and are a little higher than your hips.
4. Head close to the headrest
The back of your head should be no more than six centimetres away from your seat’s headrest. The top of the headrest should be at least as high as the top of your head- or your ears should be level with the middle of your headrest.

Not a very neutral journalistic approach to take. I have noticed that such inflammatory terms are only used in articles that refer to any entity that opposes the current open door unregulated approach to migration.
On the other hand, stories that portray migrant’s in a poor light either go unreported by mainstream media or are framed in a more gentle and understanding language.
Migration is a complex issue and it’s never black or white but I know when I’m being fed pure spin.
We should outlaw the word islamophobia. It is a term used by Muslims to stem criticism. If you hear someone using it you should argue with them. The word is toxic and it confuses well founded critism of a religion with bigoted hatred towards all others.
Yes yes, we should ban people using the word islamophobia to protect our freedom of expression!!!

2) I believe genuine refugees should be supported and accommodated, however I also believe that only a proportion of the current influx of immigrants to Europe are genuine refugees – I believe that many (possibly most) are economic migrants (who are either not at risk in their home countries or who have bypassed other safe countries to get to a country of their choice), and that a small percentage are terrorists intending to cause harm and mayhem on European civilians however. I believe uncontrolled mass immigration carries risks and that inadequate integration of immigrant populations can cause huge societal problems which may not manifest until second or third generation. These views are base on observable evidence which I believe is overwhelming. If all this makes me a xenophobe* / fascist* / racist* / nazi* (*delete as appropriate) in your eyes then it’s a label I’m prepared to live with – after all it’s only your opinion.
The opposite (ie. believing that mass uncontrolled immigration such as we have seen is not going to create difficulties in the short or long term future) is incredibly naive in my view. “Xenophobic” and “islamaphobic”? The journalist isn’t keen to hide their views on the matter. A phobia is an irrational fear. After the well-choreographed attack by middle-eastern immigrants in NYE revellers in Cologne it would be hard to describe a fear of these immigrants as a phobia. They launched fireworks into the crowd to generate panic and a stampede, and then robbed and sexually assaulted people in the crowd as the panic and confusion set in.
How could you not be against that?
It concerns me that the far-right are taking advantage of this incident to generate support for themselves (their ideology belongs to the horrible past) but they are not the only ones against the German open-border policy of last year that created these ghettos.
I can understand where, with German population growth becoming stagnant, it’s appealing for Government to take in future tax-payers under its wing, but they are in danger of costly issues of social in-cohesion and tension.

Isn’t it ironic that Angela Merkel is exasperating an image she is so desperately trying to escape. Apart from the fact the German population is ageing I believe her motivation for that insane invitation to all asylum seekers was her trying to “cleanse” Germany’s image after the atrocities of WWII. I think that is a little simplistic to be honest. There is a long history of a Muslim community in Germany (the Turkish areas in Berlin are great parts to go out in).
“Turkish areas”? That’s my point. What? Did Turkey annex a part of Berlin (again)? If you allow for ghettos you’re creating hothouses of cultural difference which will, in turn, create friction points at their edges.
The freedoms and laws that make Germany attractive to many Muslim emigrants are the same laws that they, or others who have also come, what to abolish and replace with Sharia laws.
Except they are not ghettos, there is a ton of lovely restaurant there that everyone can go to, have you even been to Berlin or Germany? And the reason the Turks are there in the first place is they basically helped rebuild the place in the 50s.

In this day and age, with access to mobile phone video and photos, and especially in Germany on street surveilance (outside the city’s main train station!). The evidiience must be available to show. It is understandable that the German authorities have first sight of this , but it is nearly two weeks old. Show the video of this happening, post photos of the alleged perpetrators.. It might help.. just my 2 cent worth..

I thought there was a shortage of police officers in Cologne? New years Eve one of the biggest nights of the year for the police force I would think.
The plaza in front of the Hauptbahnhoff is usually not full of crowds standing around. I am actually surprised that fireworks were allowed to go off in that area, as it’s pretty darned central to the city. There are parks and other areas just five minutes by s-bahn that would be much better.
Cologne is a large city. There were probably other events in other areas that they were more afraid would get out of hand.
The plaza is huge but you very rarely see more than 5 police officers around as it’s not the most crime-heavy place. In all my times going through that train station and walking across that plaza, I’ve never seen a crime happen. My first time walking over the ha’penny bridge in dublin a few months back, I saw someone try to nick a woman’s bag.
Cologne was a very safe city.. safer at midnight than Cork or Dublin at 4 in the afternoon.
If you keep labelling Pegida as “far right” , don’t you think you might end up pushing them into the arms of the REAL far right? With all this labelling from the media , maybe Pegida folks will just end up saying , “fck it.. Let’s really join the Nazis , as we’re being called that anyway”.

The German police seem to have been fairly proactive today, pity they werent so afraid to react on NYE. Its very dangerous how people are being manipulated into nonaction for fear of being branded racist. This has to stop.
This whole storm has me devastated. I love Germany. I love Cologne. It’s one of my favourite cities to go to. Any time I go to Germany, I make a point of going there, if just for a few hours, as I love it so much.
I lived in Bonn a few years ago, just half an hour by train from Cologne. I remember walking through the city once at about midnight.. It felt so much safer at that time, than Cork does at four or five in the afternoon.
The fact that someone has gone and so disturbed the peace and safety of such an amazing city has me heartbroken. I feel so bad for everyone that was attacked that night, both in Cologne and elsewhere.
I was meant to go to Dusseldorf later this year. I cancelled my trip hours before the Paris attacks in November as I worked out my finances, and realised I wouldn’t be able to save enough money for the trip. Probably just as well, as I was going to a large, popular, well known (in some communities) event. I was intending to spend a day in Cologne before flying home. The one thing I’m glad about is that my reason for cancelling was personal, and not forced on my by fear of terrorists.
I only wish I had been in Cologne to join those women in their protest.
Yea it’s disgusting. Cologne is beautiful I used to go up from Brussels. I thought of it as like a utopia, spotless clean, no filth on the streets either litter or people and just felt safe and what a civilised city should be like. Great beer, watching bundesliga with the beautiful local German people. The Xmas markets were beautiful, one right at the the top of the steps where the savage Muslim rapist filth terrorists were. I remember thinking at the Xmas market how beautiful it was and how safe no little scrotes or idiots falling over locked. Unfortunately when you open the doors too wide to refugees lots of rubbish inevitable gets in and this is what is happening. The only solution is to close them tighter and try to stem the flow of the non desirables. Once they’re it’s in they should be given a probation period to prove themselves capable of integrating. It’s a challenge in itself to integrate even the more educated Muslim migrants. With the cave men like the ones in cologne…forget about it. Send em back asap
