Protesters gather around the country over treatment of women in criminal justice system

Solidarity-PBP TD Bríd Smith says the turnout represents an anger women in Ireland are feeling over issues of consent and their bodies.

A LARGE CROWD gathered at the Spire in Dublin to protest the treatment of women in the criminal justice system following yesterday’s Belfast rape trial verdict.

People used chalk to draw the #IBelieveHer statement that has been used widely in social media following the verdict.

Similar demonstrations took place across the country.

The crowd in Dublin chanted, “We stand with her” and other chants, such as:

Wherever we are, wherever we go, yes means yes, no means no.

Speaking at the protest in Dublin Elaine from Malahide said:

If you don’t run away screaming it doesn’t mean you’ve consented. Consent is actively given, if you haven’t actively given consent – you haven’t consented.

Solidarity-PBP TD Bríd Smith says the turnout represents an anger women in Ireland are feeling over issues of consent and their bodies.

Gardaí said the road was not closed off, but motorists were delayed.

Solidarity-PBP TD Ruth Coppinger announced a protest for 2pm on Saturday afternoon.

Demonstrations were also held in Cork, Limerick, Galway and Belfast.

They can hardly be described as winners, as their careers and reputations have been damaged irreparably, not to mention having to read people like yourself saying that they are guilty still in your eyes. You prove the point that naming the accused while giving anonymity to the accuser is unfair.

I am not going to comment on whether they were innocent or guilty as I was not there to hear all of the evidence & we can only trust those who were on jury duty unlike Brid Smith to make a decision based on the evidence not social media hear say. I am sick of these so called politicians looking for attention.to suit their own agenda & using any means to do so. Do these clowns not realise the trial was in the North and not the South. Also if these women have evidence that might help the powers that be then why didn’t they give it to the PSNI when they should have, or do so now instead of causing delays and obstructing people from going about their day. However none of them even know the full details of the trial, none of us do. How can one make such a definitive judgement on a case without knowing the details. It’s almost as if they made their mind up just based on the surface facts. Oh my imagine that?

These women never learned from Mammy and Daddy that just because you think so, doesn’t mean it is so. A fair trial was had, thorough examination was done, the judge was incredibly competent and instructed the jury very well and they reached a quick decision that cleared these men of wrong doing. That’s the end of it.

Protesting on the street against a verdict that has already been delivered on the assumption that everything they’ve read on the internet is completely true…

This was a case tried in the UK, adhering to British law. Protesting about the jury’s decision in Dublin is about as useful as a wet match in a dark cave.

A bunch of silver spoon rugger bugger private school (i.e. previously “untouchable”) babies have had their reputations tarnished for life from a night of booze, most likely drugs and unanticipated group sex between the experienced “top shaggers” and a young girl who just went back to an afterparty and it was too late to stop it once it started.

Do something useful with your anger – plan a fundraiser for the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre and use this trial and spotlight to make it clear to all the men and boys around you that respecting each other, regardless of gender, is one of the single most important things we can ever do for another person.

In other words ,how dare they not just string up every man that is accused of rape. So she must be telling the truth just because she is a woman? Bit sexist isn’t it

we will never know the true events off that night. These men may be guilty, the woman might be looking for money. The verdict only proves that there was a lack off evidence. It seems strange on the basis of the evidence that these men were ever charged. It has ruined their reputations and it has damaged the police and court systems. It also undoubtedly will put other women off coming forward.

Protesting about the British justice system?? Protesting about a fair trail by a Jury of piers??
The accused who were declared innocent had their names and reputations dragged through the mud by the social media hordes. The male bashing SJW idiots are marching solely because they did not get the verdict they wanted. It begs the question should the false accuser/liar be named and shamed? The protest should be about changing the British Justice system to protect accused and accuser until after the trial and releasing only names of defendants if found guilty. Thank goodness there is trial by jury and not trial by mob! And do not start with the ‘not guilty is not necessarily innocent’ rubbish. OK rant over.

@Fifty Shades of Sé: not 19th Cent. Either Greek mythology or more recently used to describe savage monstrous females who flock together to attack unwary males on internet talkboards. Take your pick, but not 19th Cent.
