ISRAELI AUTHORITIES ALLOWED Dublin Lord Mayor Mícheál MacDonncha into the country because they mistook his title for his name.
Israel’s Strategic Affairs Ministry last night told Haaretz it would ban the Sinn Féin councillor from the country when his plane landed over his supposed ties to the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign.
However at that time, MacDonncha was already in a Ramallah hotel. The Sinn Féin politician is in Ramallah at the invitation of the Palestinian Authority for a major conference on the status of the City of Jerusalem.
He told TheJournal.ie that he had entered the country without issue.
“Rumours of my refusal are untrue. I’m in the hotel in Ramallah preparing for the conference.
“I came through Frankfurt and into Tel Aviv with no issues.”
It is now understood that MacDonncha was able to enter the country due to a spelling mistake by Israeli authorities.
Officials had mistaken this caption – Ardmhéara Mícheál MacDonncha – as his full name. Ardmheára is, of course, the Irish for Lord Mayor.
That mistake allowed MacDonncha enter the country, with a spokesperson for Israel’s Interior Ministry confirming to Haaretz’s Noa Landau that a mistake was made at the border crossing.
It had originally been planned to remove the Lord Mayor from the country today, but no legal way could be found to do so.
It is now understood that MacDonncha will be banned from Israel in the future.
The conference in Ramallah begins today.

Leaving is when the hassle and interrogations get serious. You can be grilled for 45 minutes and groups traveller together will be interrogated separately and then the agents will swap and interrogate again to compare stories.

The schools and other such places you mention were used as arms dumps by Hamas who have no regard for their children but would rather see the killed in an effort to promote anti Israeli propaganda. They use young children as human shields when shooting at Israelis, both military and civilian – in fact Abbas described children who died as a result of these acts as martyrs. I am not nieve enough to believe that in a situation of conflict that there will not be innocent casualties but I’m afraid this is just collateral damage and of course unfortunate. However if Palestinians did not attack and murder innocent Israelis then there would be no defensive action on the part of Israel.
There has been a lot on here about Israel killing children, let me restore the balance. Have you heard of the Fogel family, a Young Rabbi, his wife, his 6 year old child and his 3 year old child who were murdered by two “Palestinia” youths who cut their throats, they had a 3 month old baby too, he was murdered in the same event by being decapitated. Have you heard of the 4 Rabbis murdered by being hacked to death whilst attending Morning Prayer at a Synagogue in Jerusalem. Time for you to wake up, never mind propaganda, and see the facts as they are and, then realize why the IDF has to act in the manner in which it does. Early warnings are given to civilians when an attack is about to take place.

Israel has no interest in the taking of life but it may be necessary in the defeat of murderers. The greater good needs to be taken into account. If you read the Tanach (Bible) you will see many instances where killing is permissible but murder is never. There is very often a misinterpretation of the 10 Commandments, the Commandment “Thou Shall not Murder” is often mistaken as “Thou Shall not Kill”. This is incorrect and regretfully it has been assumed correct by many Christian Churches. If in doubt read in the original language.

@Patty Cullinane: I fear Denis forgets that Jordan were repaid for offering Palestinians full citizenship, 50% of seats in the Jordanian parliament and a new start, by the PLO attempting to overthrow its government and launching the Black September terrorist group. Arab armies sent troops to the Israeli border to pressurise the Israeli government into ending the ethnic cleansing of the Palestinians at the time (remember Irish troops going to the border at the outbreak of the ‘troubles’?). It didnt work as Israel made the first strike against the Arab armies. Since then they have continually terrorised the Palestinians, Lebanees, Syrians, Egyptians, Iranians and anyone else who may hold a different view to their own. History books are generally written by the victors but there is always another side to every story! Israel has talked about peace for decades but does nothing to actually bring about that peace. When they didnt want to deal with the PLO they encouraged the rise of Hamas. Now they wont deal with them. This is the usual delay, delay tactic and all the while they keep ignoring international law by moving Palestinians from their land and building illegal settlements thereby creating their ultimate goal of greater Israel. Any dissent is met with force.
When you look at this conflict dont just look at the Israeli side or the Palestinian side. Look at the numbers, the facts. Then make up your mind. They are there for everyone to see if you bother to look.

Air superiority allowed the IDF to focus on beating the multi- national armies that had promised to annihiliate Israel. Absolutely stunning victory. Why does everyone on here have a problem with Palestine? When Israel has been found time and time again to have committed war crimes, human rights abuse and illegal occupation by the international community and the UN.
Israel is the aggressor here, setting up in Palestine and then trying to eliminate it. Why does everyone ignore that fact ?
Why are we protecting a nation of war criminals? I am not saying they are the only ones far from it but we constantly defend this particular one. And those who oppose it are labelled ant-Semitic, even if they are Jewish.

The argument over who was there first goes back further than the Bible. There’s no point trying to win this argument as both sides claim it as ‘theirs’ and say they were there before whenever the other says.
The govt, harsh as they may be are elected by voters. They’re also totally surrounded by hostile enemies that see Judaism as an evil to be wiped out, like smallpox, they see it as something to be eradicated, literally speaking. I don’t blame them for their hard-ass view towards their enemy neighbours, they can never let their guard down.
Some people see that Israel is a free democracy where you can be gay, drink, succeed, fail, where a woman can study, have a career, etc. The country is a leader in high technology, they do very well from it and have contributed massively intellectually in this way in modern years. The economy is booming there, there’s a real chance to do well there. Arabs are welcome there. Same doesn’t go for Jews in Palestine.
In Palestine, Hamas is in charge. They’re a militant organisation that doesn’t acknowledge the legitimacy of the existence of the Jews. They do not offer their own people freedom to vote, to be gay, women are controlled, people are executed regularly. They’ve refused every offer at peace since 1948, thereby refusing to help their own people. They keep this going as it means they can hold onto the reins of power. Yasser Arafat was worth c. $150m when he died, some estimates say he was worth far, far more, whilst some of his people didn’t have shoes. Blame Israel, blame the Jews. Hamas is a completely anti-semitic organisation that bleeds its own people dry and refuses peace.
Maybe some other people see that too.

@Ros Aodha: The problem here is that this is a job for the Irish government. As in if Simon Coveney as Min. for Foreign Affairs had properly called out the Israeli’s for their target practice/murder of unarmed Palestinian demonstrators – and that’s exactly what it was/is – Dublin City Council and its mayor would not need to be involving themselves with standing up for a largely defenceless people.
What’s he meant to do – just stand by and watch and say carry on lads? I’m afraid for the Israeli’s he just can’t do that as he has something called compassion.

Israel does not interfere in the affairs of Ireland and Ireland should not interfere in the internal affairs of Israel. The Sin Fein Mayor of Dublin has compassion, sure he has like he has compassion for those murdered by his IRA colleagues or the families of the disappeared. Israel is entitled to defend ourselves and our people and no gombeen from Cork can tell us otherwise. The government of the Ffyes Republic should concentrate on its own problems, homelessness, child hunger, lack of human rights for women suffering FFA or rape and incest and an appealingly third world health service. Concentrate on those issues, Israel can concentrate on our own issues.

Its not rocket science. You are very much on the losing side in the eyes of those who value human life.
