The 5 at 5 5 minutes, 5 stories, 5 o’clock.

EACH WEEKDAY EVENING, TheJournal.ie brings you five things you need to know before you head out the door…

1. #HOUSEHOLD CHARGE: Environment Minister Phil Hogan has plugged a hole in the household charge system brought about by the fact that the legislation enforcing it had not been published in Ireland. TheJournal.ie has obtained copies of the amended legislation. However, the controversy over the €100 continues as some homeowners are warned over bogus charge collectors and, as of yesterday, only 25 per cent of the expected payments had been made.

2. #MAHON: The sixth member of Fianna Fáil who was to face expulsion from the party on Friday has formally quit the party today. Cllr Finbarr Hanrahan follows in the retreating footsteps of Bertie Ahern, Pádraig Flynn, GV Wright, Don Lydon and John Hannon.

3. #IRISH LIFE: The High Court has said that the Government can complete the takeover of Irish Life – the life assurance arm of IL&P – for €1.3bn. A sale of Irish Life collapsed last winter but it can now be sold without any impact on IL&P operations.

4. #WEATHER: The fine weather is set to continue tomorrow – but where is it coming from? Read this explainer

5 #LIKE: San Marino has had to amend its entry to the Eurovision Song Contest after it was deemed to violate a trademark. The song which was originally called ‘Facebook Uh, Oh, Oh (A Satirical Song)’ is now called ‘The Social Network Song (OH OH – Uh – OH OH)’. Watch it here.

I for one clicked this link expecting a heartwarming tale about a seagull and a starfish. Fraud.

I promise to make up one for tomorrow, John. Although the way that seagull has his beak gripped on the starfish, I fear it won’t have a happy ending.

i was listening to a report on the radio that was suggesting there were a lot of fg councillors voting for dodgy rezonings in the 90′s, seems it was common practise with all parties
