Bus Éireann is looking for nearly 200 new drivers

The jobs will be based all over the country.

BUS ÉIREANN HAS announced a campaign to hire nearly 200 new staff.

The jobs will include 190 driver positions and a number of mechanic jobs.

The roles will form part of the network’s expansion and will be based in Dublin, Cork, Galway, Mayo, Waterford, Wicklow, Navan, Drogheda, Limerick and west Clare. A national recruitment campaign, which includes radio, digital and print ads, kicks off today.

The new drivers are needed to staff an expansion and enhancement of services on a number of Bus Éireann routes nationwide and some additional enhancement of services on Expressway routes.

These service enhancements are planned for regional city networks, town services and several Expressway intercity routes and will come on stream in the next six months.

The company’s CEO Ray Hernan says the recruitment represents a new “growth phase”.

“After a challenging few years at the company, it is great to move into a new growth phase. The majority of this service expansion will be delivered on behalf of the NTA for Public Service Obligation routes – and when introduced, will greatly benefit our customers and should incentivise more people to make the switch to public transport.

“Much change and progress has been delivered across Bus Éireann and Expressway, since the acceptance of a new Labour Court Agreement by staff last year. We are continuing to transform our business to deliver an enhanced experience for our customers.”

@Veronica: And if the wage is not good enough then dont apply. At 4% unemployment, we are virtually at full employment. Go elsewhere.

How can a company that is loosing business, loosing money, loosing routes to the private sector because of inefficiency, need to hire,,, More,, drivers..?? One would be forgiven for thinking they should be cutting staff..

@Michael Fehily: because current staff are physically & mentally exhausted by being rostered for ridiculously dangerous hours & being ‘encouraged’ to drive through break periods in order to arrive at their destination on time. Mr Hernon CEO is being economic with the truth here.

@Michael Fehily: You forget they’re a semi-state with no accountability for anybody, so they’ll happily spend this money – inefficiently, rack up more debt and come whinging to the state again in a couple of years – along with the union whinging about how overworked and under paid their poor long suffering staff are, this is a cycle they go through every few years – look at the PR job they did about their new busses…only months before they then went and claimed they were on the brink of disaster.

From experience of working in a semi state one would need to be very strong willed and be a gluten for the “donkey” work if you refuse to join the union.

I own my own bus hire company and need 4 new drivers, I can’t get them for love nor money. They just aren’t there. To get a bus license and be fully compliant would cost you nearly €3000 from scratch. I pay €12 ph so just think about how long before you’d get your money back

My son went for a position and after back and forward for over 6 weeks interviews, testing his driving and passing the medical only to be told his weight let him down. What a joke. Would have saved the disappointment if he’d been told it before going through the process.

If anyone interested pay was €590 basic with 1/6th shift allowance on top, that was in 2015.
