The Daily Fix: Thursday

All the biggest news stories from the day, as well as any of the bits and pieces you may have missed.

EVERY EVENING, TheJournal.ie brings you a round-up of all the day’s main news, as well as the bits and pieces you may have missed along the way.

  • Ireland has smaller families, more divorce, and less religion than it did six years ago, according to preliminary results from the census. Here are some of the highlights.
  • In honour of the greatest news anchor of all time who last night announced his comeback: Who said it: Kay Burley or Ron Burgundy?

  • Finally, we’re going to ignore the fact that this is an ad and just focus on the good thing about it: an elephant using its trunk to play with a touchscreen phone. What’s not to love? Our favourite bit is when he uses the pen to draw some abstract art.

As I wonder what happened the pilot in Texas, and I’m sure there is a logical explanation, I realise I developed Manic Depression/Bipolar symptoms while on anti-depessants/an SSRI (Selective Serotonin Re-uptake Inhibitor). The “chemical imbalance” theory has never been proven.

If you are on these dangerous anti-depressants don’t stop “cold turkey”. There is a specific withdrawal procedure that needs to be followed. The brain gets used to these addictive substances. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/dr-peter-breggin/antidepressants-pilots-ta_b_542240.html

Only 17 days after Shane Clancy started taking the same drug as me (Ciprager, it comes under a few different names) , he murdered his friend and took his own life. Before that he seemed to have been a ‘normal’ guy. Don’t be fooled by the pseudo-Science. There are other ways of addressing symptoms of Depression eg diet, meditation, exercise, avoiding alcohol (if the person drinks) etc
