Bathing reopened at Doonbeg beach after water analysis

The council said the HSE advised the move following the tests of water samples.

PUBLIC BATHING RESTRICTIONS have been lifted at Whitestrand Doonbeg.

They were put in place on Wednesday (23 May) after elevated levels of E.coli were detected in the bathing water.

Today, Clare Council announced the lifting of all restrictions relating to bathing at Whitestrand Doonbeg. It said it was on the advice of the HSE and following analysis of water samples taken on Wednesday and Thursday.

The suspected source of the e-coli is run-off from surrounding land during heavy rainfall on Sunday evening and Monday morning.

Clare County Council says bathing water testing protocols will continue throughout the bathing season.

Meanwhile, the council said lifeguard cover at Clare’s Blue Flag beaches, including Whitestrand Doonbeg, start during the June Bank Holiday Weekend (11am to 7pm). Cover will continue on Saturdays and Sundays during the month of June. There will be full-time time cover at these locations as well as at Bishops Quarter (Ballyvaughan) and Seafield Quilty during the months of July and August, and during the first three weekends of September.

Just in time for the weekend.

Reminds me of Jaws when Sheriff Brody wanted to close the beach and the Mayor of Amity insisted the beach be kept open.

It all ended well I think…

Would Anyone seriously allow their children to swim in Doonbeg when two days ago e coli bacteria were detected in the water,is there ever a safe level for such bacteria, I would be very reluctant to swim in the water , last year while in Lahinch, I noted a problem with rats running freely at the sea front , this is something which never happened in previous years, I do hope the council act on this matter as it certainly put me off , Lahinch is one of the nicest beaches there is.
