Met Éireann warns of cold week ahead

Lowest temperatures this week are expected to dip to -3C, with sleet and snow forecast on hills in the east and north of the country.

COLD TEMPERATURES HAVE been forecast for the week ahead, with frosty mornings and wintry showers due to hit midweek, according to Met Éireann.

Monday is due to be cool and cloudy with occasional showers, with top temperatures of 9 to 12 Celsius. Temperatures are expected to drop over night to between 1 and 5C, with rain turning to sleet on northern hills.

Ulster is forecast to see some hail and sleet showers on Tuesday afternoon , with top temperatures of just 3 to 6C. Other areas around the country will experience slightly higher temperatures of between 5 and 10C.

Motorists have been warned of the possibility of ice on Tuesday night, when lowest temperatures are due to reach -3C.

Conditions are expected to improve by the weekend, with temperatures due to reach the low teens – which is around the season norm for April, Met Éireann notes.
