This is Ireland's favourite building

The shortlist for the public choice award included 31 entries around the island of Ireland and one in India.

NO 26 YORK STREET, Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland has been voted Ireland’s favourite building.

The new medical education building has won the public choice award at the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland (RIAI) Awards 2018.

The building was designed by Henry J Lyons, who won the public choice award back in 2010 for the new Criminal Courts of Justice.

The ten-storey building has four basement levels to get around planning height restrictions in Dublin’s city centre.

Described as a state-of-the-art facility for medical students, surgical trainees and staff, the building is equipped with modern cutting-edge facilities as well as a new library, auditorium and sports facility.

The shortlist for the public choice award included 31 entries around the island of Ireland and one in India.

22% of the votes cast by members of the public online went to the winning project. Over 10,000 people voted in the public choice section.

RIAI president David Browne said that the shortlist was made up of ”exceptional projects”, adding: ”It’s encouraging that Irish people recognise the value that Irish architects add to all aspects of the built environment, supporting Ireland’s educational, economic and social infrastructure.”

The rest of the winners, in 14 other categories, will be announced this evening at an awards dinner at the Mansion House, Dublin.

There was no ceasefire, so to report as such is just false. Ukraine categorically said they would not observe one so both sides continued bombing eachother. That’s all there is to it.

@Martin McGowan: exactly. As much as I disagree with what Russia has done in invading another country, this is a war of propaganda. Right or wrong you have to realise that both sides are purporting propaganda.

@Ciaran: this is a war. Propaganda has always been a part of war and always will be. Everyone should know this by now.

@Paul Furey: Ukraine said they wouldn’t observe the Russian ceasefire. Agree on propaganda, but how is this an example of it?

@Paul Furey: yes but the propaganda we see is one sided mainly … western media supporting Ukrainian propaganda, believing all Ukraine say and not believing anything Russia says..

@Ciaran: no one should be listening to what Russia has to say until they leave Ukraine.
