A MAN WHO was attacked by a group of men who entered his home early this morning has died from his injuries.
Mikolaj “Nick” Wilk (35) resided at the house in Bridge House, Maglin, Ballincollig in Cork with his partner who is also in her 30s.
Both are originally from Poland.
Gardaí were called to attend an incident at the home at 3.17am this morning, and arrived at the scene in less than five minutes.
By the time they arrived a number of assailants had already fled the scene. Gardaí found Wilk seriously injured with life threatening injuries.
He was taken to Cork University Hospital where he later died due to his injuries. His partner is currently receiving treatment for non-life threatening injuries.
At around 4.20am, units from the Cork County Fire Service responded to reports of a fire at Iniskenny, Ballinora, Waterfall. This car – believed to be a BMW 3 series - was 6km away from the incident in Ballincollig.
Both scenes are currently being preserved where forensic examinations were under way.
The coroner has been notified and the State Pathologist will also attend. A post-mortem will take place tomorrow morning at 9am.
Gardaí said they were anxious to speak to any drivers with dash cam footage and travelled in the Maglin, Ballincollig, Ballinora and Waterfall areas between 2am and 5am this morning, or anyone who saw any suspicious activities in these areas over the past few days.
Gardai are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to contact them at Gurranabraher on 021 4946200, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.

Ballincollig, where this attack occurred, is probably Cork’s largest satellite – commuter town and has an almost new Garda station that I believe is closed by night and the area is covered by Gurranabraher station which is several miles away and has one patrol car covering almost all of the Northside of the city – these thugs know there is almost zero chance of them being intercepted or apprehended – Cork recently opened a new state of the art courthouse for the comfort of lawyers and convicts yet the Gardai are deprived of investment and resources – case of the chickens coming home to roost
Yes, so many people are dying at the hands of the phenomenon we aren’t allowed to talk about. Why not be honest and say you censor comments at the top of the comments section?
To everyone reading these, think about why it is that this is a topic we aren’t allowed to talk about, every though it features so prominently in our society and it is something that affects us all?

@Bat Daly: let’s say it clearly…… nothing has changed. Our society is not any more violent than it was 50 years ago however our understanding and media have changed a lot in the meantime.
@Tweety McTweeter: Toxic masculinity is costing lives. Folks are very quick to draw a demographic connection when it concerns non-nationals or those of certain religions but apparently we’re just supposed to not make any sort of connection between men and crime or have any sort of conversation on why men are committing 90%+ of all murders.
What’s happening in our country?, murder and violence on a daily basis, Get The Rangers out of their barracks on to the streets.
We will have to start appointing marshalls to bring the thug population to heel.

@Murf: The gardai are doing a fantastic job. The judicial system needs overhauling. These guys are probably on bail over something else. Even so take a look at London. It’s a society issue. Until we can detect crimes before they actually happen you can’t stop them

@Dave Malon: ballincollig has a garda station that could cover the town and surrounding areas with ease if they used it. The station closes at 4pm on a Saturday and nearly every day but I’m open to correction. There is fu*k all stress involved in these office workers jobs at all
