Cool, wet conditions to continue over Easter weekend

The good news is that there might be some sunny spells on Saturday…

THE WET WEATHER is set to continue into the Easter weekend, though Met Éireann forecasters say they are expecting temperatures to rise slightly over the next few days.

While Ulster and Connacht are in for further showers and minimum temperatures of between 4 and 6 degrees tonight, Munster and Leinster can expect some frosty patches as temperatures drop to as low as -1.

However, by tomorrow, temperatures could rise to lows of 5 degrees and highs of 12 degrees – though expect showers.

Bright and sunny spells are expected on Saturday (between the drizzly patches), with mild temperatures of around 10 to 13 degrees. Those temperatures are expected to rise slightly more by Easter Sunday; however, Met Éireann says that Easter Monday’s conditions are so far “uncertain” though may be wet and cool.

AA Roadwatch is advising motorists to increase their braking distance due to wet driving conditions, and says that the Sally Gap and Wicklow Gaps should be avoided until conditions improve.

Last night, two mountain rescue teams were called to assist two men who had attempted to cross the Sally Gap in a small hatchback car. The vehicle became struck near the crossroads on the road near Roundwood at around 4am. They were located by the teams at around 5am and brought to safety.
