It'll still be very hot this week as drought warning to remain until Friday

Another high temperature warning kicks in for most of the country this morning.

THERE IS GOOD news for those who’ve been enjoying the sun over the past few weeks: we’re set for another hot week with “little or no rain forecast” across the country.

However, that means that Met Éireann’s status yellow drought warning remains in place as this week gets underway with temperatures reaching as high as 27 degrees in some parts of the country today.

A separate status yellow warning kicks into effect at 11am today for most of the country – in Munster, Leinster, Cavan, Monaghan, Galway, Leitrim and Roscommon – due to the high temperatures.

The warmest weather today will be found in Munster and south Leinster, and the warm, dry weather will continue into tomorrow.

Wednesday is forecast to be largely similar, with the slight risk of one or two isolated shower.

Looking further ahead, the rest of the week will be largely similar with temperatures likely in the mid-to-low twenties throughout.

Met Éireann added in its forecast: “At the moment it looks like the early days of next week will continue warm, dry and mostly sunny.”

However, the drought conditions have contributed to a hosepipe ban introduced by Irish Water, which has urged customers to conserve water.

The headlines on the so called Independent are very telling about what is going on. Three days running about water meters which no other paper is putting on the front page. We have a paper running an agenda backed up by a company that is meant to be shut down. The owner of the paper happens to be the one installing the waste of money meters.

We have plenty of water in the rivers if we are running short then call in the army and lets have a response from the leaders of this country towards the problem by using the forces of the state to ensure we all have running water.

This farce of asking neighbors to watch other neighbors and report them. Are we back to the turning the country against itself over water. We need leadership from our Tshock and not just about the color socks he wears.

FF should pull the plug on this farce ASAP and go to the people.

@brian boru: Irish Water was not meant to be shut down. The water charges were to go but not the company. In principle I don’t have an issue with Irish Water. Currently we are losing 50% of our water through leaks. A legacy of having 30 or so local authorities doing shag all about it. If Irish Water begin to manage the system, efficiently, paid for through general taxation, with the guarantee the resource will never be privatised, then I think that’s good for all of us. Maybe then we won’t have Sahara type availability of water after a couple of days of sun.

Brian’s comment referred specifically to calling in the army – do they now have full-scale water treatment plants?

@Hugh Corcoran: Water charges should be removed from general taxation and paid for by the user. Why should the taxpayer pay for water for those who choose not to work?

@Walt Jabsco: I drink river water all the time….the trick is knowing which part of the river to drink from….It aint that difficult lots of water out there but the agenda by Leo seems to be to create a billing platform for private business not to provide drinking water to the nation

Why not do the same with road infrastructure, emergency services and hospitals. If the unemployed guys house down the road goes on fire let ‘em burn. God only loves tax payers….

I often drink untreated water from mountain streams but they’re pretty much dry now and certainly wouldn’t quench the thirst of a nation either way.
I wouldn’t drink directly from high-volume rivers like the Shannon or the Liffey though – would you?

@Walt Jabsco: I was thinking of the Avoca, the barrow the nore and the Suir and the other thousands of rivers around the country that still has flow – by transporting the water by road to the treatment plants as opposed to just drinking it directly you can ensure its drinkable
