• It’s been confirmed that Pope Benedict will NOT be attending this year’s International Eucharistic Congress in Dublin. The pontiff has nominated Cardinal Marc Ouellet as his personal Legate to the congress taking place in June.
• Gerry Adams has marked the anniversary of the Easter Rising by issuing a seven-point plan for the creation of a united Ireland. Adams says the seven “key strategic goals” would build popular support for reunification on both sides of the island.
• At least 117 soldiers are still missing as a search continues following an avalanche in Pakistan this morning. The avalanche struck a mountainous, high-altitude area populated only by Indian and Pakistani soldiers close to the pair’s border.
• RTÉ reports this evening that government sources are considering exemptions from the forthcoming property tax, for those who paid large amounts of stamp duty on house purchases in the last few years. It says a final decision is due in a report next month.
• Elsewhere within the broadcaster, RTÉ is expected to face a fine of around €200,000 from the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland over the Fr Kevin Reynolds scandal. The Irish Times reports the fine, a report we have separately established to be accurate.
• Four men will appear in court this evening charged with the discovery of around €650,000 worth of cannabis in Carlow.
• A senior employee at Virgin Atlantic has resigned after it emerged she had routinely shared the travel details of high-profile passengers, such as Cheryl Cole and Princess Beatrice, with a paparazzi agency.

• A busy day on the sporting front, where Leinster booked their place in the Heineken Cup semi-finals thanks to a handsome 34-3 battering of the Cardiff Blues in Dublin. Edinburgh overcame Toulouse in the first of the day’s quarter-finals.
• In the Premier League, Liverpool’s woeful home form continued with a 1-1 draw against Aston Villa, though Chelsea’s hopes of a top-four finish were boosted with a late win against Wigan. Here’s today’s 3pm kickoffs as they happened. In Scotland, Celtic sealed their first title in four years with a 6-0 hammering of Kilmarnock.

• Apple users have been advised to download the latest software updates for the Mac, after a Russian security company exposed a trojan virus with around 550,000 victims – some of them in Ireland.

• The United States has frozen the pay of three CEOs whose firms have yet to repay the loans they got in the 2008 financial crisis. The three CEOs are still heavy earners, though – one of them is on a total package of $10.5 million.
