Ryanair cabin crew across Europe to strike on 25 and 26 July

The strike will affect Portugal, Italy, Spain and Belgium.

RYANAIR PASSENGERS ARE facing more disruption as cabin crew across Europe prepare to strike at the end of this month.

Crews in Portugal, Italy, Spain and Belgium will stage 24-hour strikes on 25 July and one in Portugal, Spain and Belgium on 26 July.

Cabin crew from around Europe have made demands on “economic conditions, safety and rostering, a fair and supportive work culture, agency employment, the right to sick pay and sales targets”.

A statement signed by unions from the countries was issued today.

Ireland

In Ireland, pilots’ union IALPA today said that there is “no evidence” that Ryanair is willing to engage in “meaningful negotiations” about next Thursday’s strike action.

Ryanair yesterday wrote to the union asking it to meet and cancel next Thursday’s strike action. However, IALPA says that the company’s response is not adequate and next week’s strike still stands.

“The response from members based on all of your letters is that it is once again an attempt by the management to avert a dispute but with absolutely no intention of negotiating on what are considered to be very reasonable requirements.

“As indicated in numerous previous letters, we are, and have always been, willing to meet you (subject to rostered duties) to discuss the issues, but the notice of industrial action stands and it is the position of IALPA/Fórsa that the 24 hour stoppage will only be averted if agreement is reached on the 11 minimum requirements in a seniority agreement.

“We have consistently suggested a neutral venue which we will pay for and it is beyond anyone’s understanding why you will not simply agree to this. It is yet another example of a Ryanair view which is ‘it’s either our way or no way’.”

Like them or hate them you know they were and are so far an extremely successful airline. That wasn’t achieved by pandering to union demands . They wouldn’t have gotten anywhere. Now the damage will start , the Airline will be blamed on the delays etc. and the demands may be met and the inevitable result will be increased prices and then further demands until an Aer Lingus situation is arrived at and they have to start unloading staff and services to get back to a rational management of their business… just like Aer Lingus had to implement cuts and eliminate practices , and be more like …guess who… Ryanair.

@Terry Cahill: You do know that Ryanair is based on the South West airlines model in the US, Founded by an Irish American which recognise unions and they make a profit.
Yes we all hear about how Ryanair broke up the duopoply of BA&EI all those years ago bringing cheaper fares etc.
The thing is this was going happen anyway with the deregulation off the industry, And the emergence of the likes of Easyjet and other carriers around Europe.

@Dan Stewart: Why not make Mike another billion off the backs of modern day slavery sure whos counting. Ryanair treat their workers like complete dirt I know people who work form them, I have no problem with unions in the private sector as they have a lot to lose by striking. On the other lets not mix them up with unions in the public sector who know striking carry no risks at all, they know they can hold the taxpayer to ransom and do so all the time and this is a large part of why this country is such a car crash.

@Dave Byrne: No I didn’t , and of course many businesses can and do make profit and are comfortably unionised , no disputing that , but I actually don’t see your point. This is Ireland, and Europe, not the US , they would not have achieved the growth and huge profitability with the constraints that unions would put on them. Whatever the model was, they made a decision to eliminate union involvement. Not for one second do I agree with them, Been in a Union all my life !

@Peter Hughes: No they didn’t , then suffered successive hefty pay cuts , longer working hours ( which is , in effect a further pay cut ) & despite this didn’t strike despite the fact that could have ground the country to a halt.
We owe the Unions & their members a huge thank you for their mature response to an unprecedented economic crisis .

Pure gangsters, always a delay with them, guaranteed at least 2 hours every single flight, it’s only in the last year they have went down hill since all their pilots jumped ship to Norwegian Airlines, late flight from Shannon always delayed to stansted, it’s either a flat tyre, no engineer at the airport, a problem with aircraft and web had to wait to replace the plane, all bull, jumped ship with to air Lingus, you actually get what you pay for.
