THE THAI NAVY Seals have posted a video to Facebook of their divers as they rescue the boys who were trapped in a cave for over two weeks.

The video shows a number of divers as they prepare their equipment before they go underwater, guided by a rope.

The video shows the boy being placed on a stretcher and lifted be a team of eight to ten divers through the cave and lifted part of the way.

The 12 boys and their 25-year-old coach were extracted from the cave over the past three days after rescuers probed the best way to get the boys out before heavy rainfall forecast for later in the week.

One option was to leave the Wild Boar football team and their coach in the cave through the monsoon season, and wait until the water levels in the cave were low enough to extract them safely.

But this was quickly ruled out as the oxygen levels in the cave were at unhealthy levels and the risk of infection was very high.

Rescuers decided to extract the 13 people from the cave after using pumps to lower water levels so that most of the cave could be accessed on foot.

Reuters news agency put together a comprehensive map of the route into the cave that was taken and the complications of getting the boys out.

In the caption on the Facebook post, The Thai Navy Seals called it “the operation the world will never forget”.

We will not forget the 18 days that the whole world merged in the cave of Luang-Khun Nang.

“And we will remember the sacrifice, the courage and the magnificent mind of [those involved in the rescue].”

… and I wonder, if they did, would the Filipinos write belittling letters to their online newspapers about it.

@MurtyMac: not belittling the death at all. Tragic loss of life. Just wondering why Irish media are reporting on this.

Fully expect to see responses like ‘well you don’t have to read articles on a free site…set up your own site’ blah blah blah.

@Onion Knight: Was there myself last year so I had an interest. Maybe if you spent less time commenting on articles that dont interest you you’d find more articles that do interest you? Or in your words – “blah blah blah”.

@Onion Knight: If someone was eaten by a crocodile in Ireland I would imagine that would be big news!

Many years ago I was driving with a friend in Tanzania. We came to a bridge which was flooded so we started to push the car off the bridge. I happened to glance back and saw a crocodile heading rapidly for his lunch which was me. I jumped on to the roof of the car like an Olympic athlete. The crocodile glanced at me for a while and then he went off to a different lunch. That was the closest to death that I have been so far. Maybe I do have a guardian angel after all.
