2002 is the last time I went to the cinema. Over rated and expensive. A pizza, glass or 3 of wine and a good film at home is a more enjoyable experience. Yes, I’m getting old; yes I still have a dvd player!

Sorry, people forget that we want to get as much going in ireland as possible, throwing in crap non essential stuff is just going to get us back to last March in no time.
If not going to the cinema or on holidays means that some people get to work or elderly get to go outside, so be it.

@Wheresmyjumper: not true at all. I live close enough to a hospital. Where staff dealing with people who have it are also walking in the neighbourhood. Given so many health workers have caught it they can spread it. So when my elderly mother goes for a walk in the same area her risk of exposure is high even with social distancing. The elderly neighbours are meeting each other sort of maintaining social distancing. One infection in these neighbours could cause the whole street to get it. Complacency has already kicked in

Its not a time to be complacent but is it a time to be realistic

Would love to get back to going to the cinema again, unfortunately I can’t see it happening for a long time.

007 was the big one to see but that and so many others have been pushed back.

This year will probably be the worst Hollywood has ever suffered.

In the meantime, I’ve bought myself an atmos surround sound system, and am expecting a 70” 4K TV & UHD player to be delivered shortly.

The attic has been cleared during lockdown, decorating is just finished and that’s going to become our cinema.

Have loads of movies on preorder and have a load been delivered waiting to be watched.

Did the insulation, drywall, flooring and plastering myself. Have it painted in muted colours, dimmer lights in place and no windows. Couple of sofas going up this weekend, perfect.

Went to the gate in Cork last night and will be going to the Omniplex over the weekend. Happy to take the classics I’ve seen before while I wait for new releases. Once you make your selection 2 seats on all sides of you are unavailable for selection by the next person. With only 50 people per screen at the moment there is also plenty of room if you want to go more than the 2 seat distance. For me I’d take the cinemas opening over pubs any day of the week for where I want to spend my time and money but different strokes for different folks.

You have to book tickets online.

Popcorn etc has to be pre purchased online and collected so there’s no transfer of money and limited queueing.

Even before covid, cinemas were over priced. Like a lot of businesses, they need to start thinking of getting customers back in the short term rather than worry about profits, because people will just stream legally or other wise at home when its cheaper and be able to have their own treats rather than go to the local cinema and pay nearly 10 euro for a popcorn and drink

@Jonnie Marre: enjoy yer crappy audio and cam video.
The same people complain there’s nothing good out because they don’t pay to see the good stuff when it is out.

Hopefully it will mean that when you book your seat for a quiet show someone hasn’t taken it when you get there cos it was a good seat.

There are so many people objecting to stuff in films nowadays you’ll sit through the opening titles and it’ll jump to the closing titles so no feelings are hurt.

I can sit in the comfort of my own home watching anything I want for practically free on a 65” screen with surround sound, with my own food and drink and no strangers coughing, munching or whispering beside me. And I can pause if I need a go to the toilet.
I haven’t bothered with the cinema since we had 32” inch TVs and crap internet!

Ill go when something I want to see is on
If this hadnt happened I would have seen Mulan
I dont know what the story is with release dates for films yet as everything is pushed back and still very uncertain with whats happening in the US. Hollywood studios are unlikely to release films until cinemas in New York and California are back open
