    Just legalize, regulate and tax it. Might help educate the population in safe use of others drugs like alcohol; nicotine and even caffeine

    @Jerriko17: The argument isn’t whether it’s dangerous or not, of course burning any material and inhaling the fumes is not healthy, the argument has several dimensions to it;

    A/ Is there anybody in the country who wants to smoke weed but is currently unable to do so?

    No. I can get you a pound of it by lunch time tomorrow.

    B/ Is the current prohibition effectively serving the public interest?

    No. It is widely available, consumed and is criminalizing otherwise law abiding citizens.

    C/ Is this vastly consumed product regulated to ensure it’s as safe as can be for the public?

    No. Chemicals to treat the plants and adding toxins are widely used to maximize yield.

    D/ Would legalization benefit society?

    Yes. Other than tax revenue and taking money from criminals it could be produced in safer consumption forms such as edibles and would also provide its widely acknowledged medicinal values to patients who need it. Recreational use is only a portion of a much bigger picture.

    I see some of you people publish manifestos on here. I need to figure out how to beat the word count. I know it can be done.

    @cryptodon: Although the gardai have a tendency to over estimate the value of drug seizures, 800e per plant seems a fair estimate. Assuming that the average price of an ounce is 300e and a well grown plant can yield anywhere from 2-6 ounces. Either way it’s a lot of money that could have been taxed and put to good use in our society

    What a waste of scarce gardai resources.
    Future generations are going to look back at drug prohibition amazed at how our society continued to make the problem FAR worse in our efforts to control it.
    The damage caused and resources wasted by cannabis illegality far outweigh the potential harms of the plant.
