First woman fined in Denmark for wearing full-face veil - reports

As of 1 August, wearing a burqa or the niqab in public carries a fine of 1,000 kroner.

A 28-YEAR-OLD woman wearing a niqab has become the first person in Denmark to be fined for violating a new controversial law banning full-face Islamic veils in public places, according to media reports.

Police were called to a shopping centre in Horsholm, in the northeastern region of Nordsjaelland, where the woman had become involved in a scuffle with another woman who had tried to tear her niqab off, police duty officer David Borchersen told the Ritzau news agency.

“During the fight her niqab came off, but by the time we arrived she had put it back on again,” Borchersen said.

Police took a photograph of the woman wearing the niqab, and obtained security camera footage from the shopping centre of the incident.

The woman was informed she would receive a fine of 1,000 kroner (about €134) in the post, and was told to either remove her veil or leave the public space.

“She chose the latter,” Borchersen said.

As of 1 August, wearing a burqa, which covers a person’s entire face, or the niqab, which only shows the eyes, in public carries a fine of 1,000 kroner.

Repeated violations are fined up to 10,000 kroner.

The ban also targets other accessories that hide the face such as balaclavas, masks and false beards.

Human rights campaigners have slammed the ban as a violation of women’s rights, while supporters argue it enables better integration of Muslim immigrants into Danish society.

The full-face veil is a hot-button issue across Europe.

Belgium, France, Germany and Austria have already imposed bans or partial bans.

@Diarmuid Dorney: Thankfully our American friends won’t suffer salmonella from a Kinde Egg cause they aren’t allowed for sale due to the toy being a choking hazard. American kids must unhinged their jaws and try to eat them whole or something.

@Diarmuid Dorney: I wonder does the salmonella come fully assembled or is there a 5 step instruction leaflet along with some small stickers…

@Jason Walsh: You think it’s the egg that’s the chocking hazard?? It’s the toy. Silly law in a country where children can legally own guns.

@Jason Walsh: Can’t buy a Kinder Egg in Walmart because they are dangerous. You can buy a gun though. Makes perfect sense.

Did you ever notice that most Salmonella, Listeria and Campylobacter causing Food Poisoning comes from Animal Products ?
Do you think they are trying to tell us something ?
Isn’t it about time we gave up on cruelty to animals – forcing them to be pregnant so as we can take their milk to make ‘chocolate eggs’ ?

@The world outside the M50: have you noticed how Salmonella can also occur with vegetables and leafy greens, rice, fruit or sprouts?

@D. Memery: Maybe you missed the word ‘MOST’ so I repeat it in capitals for you.
The main reason for the rare Salmonella on Vegetables is the use of improperly treated ANIMAL MANURE and irrigating with contaminated water – SO nothing to do with the vegetables in an of themselves but outside factors.
No – we obviously should not stop eating – but we need to remember where Swine Flu, Avian Flu, SARS, COVID and other Zoonotic diseases come from – our interaction with animals.
Factory Farming is the culprit here not eating.
As for looking at the world outside the M50 – I’m glad that I don’t live inside it.
