US tech firm to add 350 jobs in Dublin

The move will more than double Qualtrics’ workforce here.

US TECH FIRM Qualtrics is to create 350 jobs at its Dublin hub, a move that will more than double its workforce here.

The company, which designs software for the collection and analysis of data, was first set up in 2002 and opened its Dublin office in 2013.

It currently has 1,900 employees worldwide and is considered one of the fastest-growing tech companies globally.

The jobs, which the company has announced on its fifth anniversary on Irish soil, will be created over the next four years and will see the number of people employed in Dublin jump from 250 to 600.

The new roles will be in areas across the board, from tech support to engineering, sales and HR.

To accommodate the influx of new staff the company is in the process of constructing new offices on Clarendon Row, just off St Stephen’s Green in the city.

The existing offices are at Earlsfort Terrace in the south city centre.

The company, which has European offices in London, Paris, the Netherlands and the Nordics, handles its European, Middle Eastern, and African (EMEA) business from the Dublin hub.

Qualtrics’ Dublin office opened with just four employees five years ago.

CEO and co-founder Ryan Smith meanwhile told Fora last year that his interest in building a giant operation in Ireland has nothing to do with the relatively low corporate tax rate here.

@Toomasu Sumitsu: These jobs are being created over the next four years which works out at less than 90 jobs a year.

I think Dublin can handle that.

@Kevin Gallagher: it’s a broader point on all new jobs in the cc. We’ve made plenty of new office space but residential units are lagging behind and we already have a housing crisis. Tech companies attract talented immigrant labour too so they obviously can’t continue to live in their home countries.

@Kevin Gallagher: Because we’re lagging behind in education. We simply don’t have enough qualified candidates to fill these rolls so many tech companies recruit from abroad which is a big problem if they can’t find somewhere to live.

Right now we lack a proper workforce to attract these companies:

    https://www.irishtimes.com/news/education/many-college-graduates-lack-work-ready-skills-say-small-firms-1.3062433?mode=sample&auth-failed=1&pw-origin=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.irishtimes.com%2Fnews%2Feducation%2Fmany-college-graduates-lack-work-ready-skills-say-small-firms-1.3062433

Why? Because our government is behind the curve because the clowns we have running the show can’t pick up the ball to drop it in the first place:

I believe in Capitalism and FDI, but these 350 people are going to displace more people who cannot compete with them on salaries. We need more joined up thinking. Apartment complexes should be part funded by companies for next couple of years.

@Ollie: something very irregular is happening in economic terms, increase in Demand is meant to encourage Supply, and thus the economy improves

Very odd that this basic principle seems to be not materializing, leaving us with the only option to drastically change the regulations as to encourage normal economic behaviour

Otherwise our current problems will worsen.

Simplistic outlook but that’s how I think things should be looked at

@Hellenize Dublin: That’s because you are continuing to underestimate how deep and impacting the crisis was on the property market and the fact that there are still high taxes associated with building and property generally.
But we can both agree that there remains a persistent undersupply.

If the corporate tax rate was increased imagine the amount of jobs lost. We’re not setting up these types of companies ourselves.

@Ollie: They won’t all be people new to the city. Even if they weren’t born here they will probably be from one of the other tech firms. Also, people have had years to educate themselves in a stem area. I took a fas ecdl course and started a computing degree after I’d worked out some of the basics. If people keep studying in areas with low demand, well who’s fault is that.

Why oh why do Irish people whine about more jobs being created for people?! Theses jobs will have a knock effect seen in cafes ,shops,hairdressers/barbers etc and the wider economy as a whole. The more people in work the better for everyone. Announcements like this are to be greeted with optimism rather than moaning

@Jim Ni Suilleabhain: they tend to inflate the number of jobs announced but make no mistake, the majority of the jobs do materialize. Qualtrics grew by 200 to 300 staff, from 20, in about 3 years, and they announced that before it happened. Indeed have experienced massive growth in Dublin in the last couple of years and are hiring at a rate of knots as we speak. Same goes for the likes of MasterCard, Google, Cartrawler, Facebook et al.

    From Indo –

Mr Smith named the new headquarters after Dermot Costello, the Dublin chairman who passed away from cancer earlier this year.

“Dermot was an inspiration to us all,” said Mr Smith. “He pioneered the success of Qualtrics in Europe and had a positive impact on everybody he worked with.

“He was one of Ireland’s best tech ambassadors.”

Mr Smith said that the cancer research campaign ’5 For The Fight’, which was promoted heavily by Mr Costello, has raised close to €200,000 to date.
