IN THE REGION of €1.2 million in cash was seized by gardaí after searches in Wexford and Dublin today.
The operation was part of an investigation into organised crime.
At approximately 10.45am, officers from the National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau stopped two vehicles off the Clonard Road in Wexford town.
Further searches in Dublin were carried out, resulting in “a very significant sum of cash” being seized.
Four men, aged 47, 44, 38 and 29, were arrested on suspicion of money laundering offences and are currently being detained at Wexford Garda Station under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
Speaking about the searches, Assistant Commissioner John O’Driscoll, who is head of Special Crime Operations, said: “Depriving organised crime groups of the proceeds of their criminal activity is a particular priority for the Garda Síochána.”

@Paddy Power: I agree the Journal does a good job on the local stuff but they do enough international news for it to be assumed they will cover big international stories. They are a bit hit and miss though as they seem to gravitate towards stories that will stir up comments, which is unfortunate.

@Shane Corry: Which is exactly where small( and a lot of large) media outlets source many of their articles. Don’t know what people expect from the Journal. On the spot reporting from outside the defence ministry in Tehran ? They don’t have roving reporters, so are dependent on other reliable news sources. They can’t get into a rush to be the first with the story either. Keeping readers informed is important, but more important is that they keep people informed with factual, verified information. It takes time to source that.
@Tommy Roche: what about the selective nature of their coverage, picking news stories that generate clicks and comments over others. Is that not a form of dumbing down?
@Tommy Roche: AFP = Agence France-Presse based in Paris, is the 3rd biggest news organisation in the world, and is the MAIN reason all the Middle East / Russia /China news/ is reported in a totally biased way that Suits NATO and the West in general.

Unfortunately for Wexford, it seems a lot of the Dublin rif-raff and shady criminal elements have relocated there to take the focus off themselves and to further disperse their criminal activities….what a pity, giving a nice area of the country an increasingly bad name.

Margate not a good idea to generalize about Dublin people moving to Wexford. I know lots of decent hard working ‘dubs’ who wish to live there and are an asset to the county. They also contribute greatly to the local communities.
It’s a free country people can move around freely and just because they do doesn’t make them criminals or imply that they are running away from something.
