The 5 at 5 5 stories, 5 minutes, 5 o’clock…

EVERY WEEKDAY EVENING, TheJournal.ie brings you the five stories you need to know before you head out the door…

1.# RAPE TAPE The Garda Ombudsman’s report into the so-called Corrib gas “rape tape” controversy was published this afternoon. It recommends disciplinary proceedings against one garda. The Ombudsman noted that comments about rape and deportation were not said directly to the arrested women. The full transcript of the tape is available to read here.

2.#DRONE A Channel 4 investigation discovered that parts manufactured by a company called Tillotson in Kerry were found in a drone used to target civilians in South Sudan. It is believed another part of the unmanned aircraft was manufactured in Iran.

3.#ABORTION Senator Rónán Mullen denied accusations again today that he was unpleasant to women in Leinster House who had shared their experience of abortion outside of Ireland. He told Newstalk’s Lunchtime programme that claims he was smirking during the meeting “were designed to portray me unsympathetically”.

4.#WEATHER The east coast will  bear the brunt of rainfall this week, Met Éireann has warned. However, it said that it is not clear whether the heavy rainfall will cause the sort of havoc that occurred during last October’s heavy rain and subsequent flooding in Dublin.

5.#SINKHOLE Imagine walking down the street and getting swallowed by the pavement: that’s what happened to a schoolgirl in China recently. Luckily she was rescued by a taxi driver, who climbed in to get her. The incident was captured on CCTV.

OMG as the kids say, LMFAO…..it’s not just Ahern that ruined the FF image and he can’t be used as the only scapegoat. Biffo et al. are not off the hook (or Martin).

And these are only the investigation into planning in Dublin.

It’s a pity that Phil Hogan cancelled the investigations into other areas. I know they cost a lot, but considering the amount that Owen O’Callaghan put up in Cork over the years (Mahon Point, Merchant’s Quay, Opera Lane), there has to be some scope for investigation there too.

Now that the writing is on the wall so to speak, why isn’t he locked up for it? I know what would happen if it was me.
