@Johnny Mason: Ireland will be one of the last developed countries in the world to have it legalised.. Especially if the big pharma companies and politicians looking out for the drink industry have anything to say about it

@Acedeuce: I don’t know. There could be a money making angle for Big Pharma in it selling quality controlled cannabis for medicinal purposes. I’d say they are watching this space closely.

@Acedeuce: Exactly! Compared to other developed countries Ireland is still living in stone age, min 20 years behind. You have 4 small plants on your backyard for own use and they are making such a big deal out of it. And 15 months later investigation still continues, questioning, statement, district court etc. It’s a JOKE! Like they have nothing better to do than bother decent people who enjoy the benefits of cannabis products.

That’s a disgraceful waste of Garda resources, on prohibition that is not an actual crime. Prohibition is a shameful blight on humanities existence and our current prohibition dwarfs the historical US alcohol debacle, that is rightly condemned. Canada is a shining beacon for humanity, against the vile inhumane corrupt prohibition attack on nice people.

@KingCrisp: and the example that Japan has set by going after users? The drug crime in Japan has plummeted but that not going to impress on your narrative. While I myself have an open mind on legalisation the belief that legalizing is the only solution is false. Japan proves this.

@Mjhint: Japans culture is very different and based on strict adherence to laws, but that is changing rapidly with a surge in drug use as they realise that the laws are nonsensical “in 2010, the government of Japan estimated that there were at least 2.76 million Japanese who had used illegal drugs. Although this is only about 2.9 percent of the population, for a country that had relatively no drug problem only 15 years ago, this is a huge increase.”
Japan proves that very strict cruel inhumane illogical prohibition laws do not work as the people disobey laws that should never exist.

@Mjhint: One would hope that you do not approve of cruel illogical laws that are terrorizing jailing nice people, whilst enriching dangerous gangland mafias perpetually. It’s hard to tell from your comment. On the one hand you say you have an open mind and in the other you appear to think the only way is Japan(Essex TV joke), or its a good example.

Insane cruel laws have existed in many guises. The Jim Crow laws lynched people, it was the law. In Nazi Germany the killing of millions of people was the law.
A lot of countries including jailed executed people if they where gay. Some countries still do this and the US is regressing back towards inhumane laws of theocracy against people because their religion is opposed to LGBT etc.
These are all insane cruel laws, as are prohibition laws. People are still executed in some countries under cruel sadistic prohibition laws. Some people think that you have to obey cruel evil laws, just because it is the law.
