GOOD MORNING

The 9 at 9 Nine stories you need to know this morning…

EVERY MORNING, TheJournal.ie brings you the nine things you need to know as you start your day.

1. #POLL: A new opinion poll has found almost half of Irish voters plan to support the referendum on the Stability Treaty next month. The Red C poll in today’s Sunday Business Post shows 47 per cent of voters say they will vote Yes, 35 per cent say they will vote No, and 18 per cent Don’t Know. The same poll also found that support for both Fine Gael and Labour has dropped slightly.

2. #MONEY MONEY MONEY: Denis O’Brien has seen the biggest drop in his wealth among Ireland’s richest people with an estimated decrease of €348 million in the past year, according to the Sunday Times Rich List published today. Retailer Hilary Weston and her family top the Rich List with an estimated fortune of €7,108 million, followed by O’Brien, John Dorrance and Dermot Desmond. Meanwhile U2, Michael Flatley and Enya all made the list of the richest music millionaires in the UK and Ireland.

3. #LONDON 2012: Residents at an apartment complex in London have been told that missiles and security teams are to be stationed on the roof of their buildings for the duration of the 2012 Olympics. A booklet in the post was given to residents to inform them of the move but there had been no consultation, one resident has said.

4. #PROPERTY BUBBLE: At least fifty houses have sold for more than €1 million in Dublin since the start of this year, according to new figures obtained by the Sunday Business Post. The reduction in stamp duty rates in last December’s Budget has made larger homes more attractive, one estate agent said.

5. #DRUGS: Three men have been arrested after Gardaí seized drugs worth up to €240,000 in planned searches targeting a north Dublin criminal gang. Gardaí from the Organised Crime Unit seized the cannabis herb from two vans in Kentstown in Meath and from a house in Navan on Saturday afternoon.

6. #CORRUPTION: Businessman Ben Dunne has said corruption is ‘alive and well’ in Irish politics. In an interview in the Sunday Independent, the entrepreneur said the only difference the Moriarty Tribunal has made is that politicians no longer ask him for money.

7. #ARMED GANG: Gardaí in Clare are hunting for an armed gang following a robbery at a betting shop in Ennis last night. Three raiders entered the shop as staff were closing up last night and stole a substantial amount of money. No-one was injured in the incident.

8. #LEBANON: Lebanese authorities have impounded a ship after a consignment of arms and ammunition, believed to be destined for the rebels in Syria, was found on board. Eleven members of the crew have been detained, the BBC reports. Some of the arms on board were reportedly labelled as being from Libya.

9. #ROAST: American president Barack Obama has taken shots at Republican nominee Mitt Romney and compared the upcoming election to The Hunger Games (it’s funnier than it sounds, trust us). At last night’s White House Correspondents’ dinner, an annual event where the president gets to give a usually-funny speech to journalists, Obama took the opportunity to make jokes about Romney’s wealth and the Secret Service sex scandal, among other things.
