Met Éireann warns over possible 'stormy conditions' on Thursday

Keep the umbrella with you for the week – showers are expected on and off every day.

LAST UPDATE | 4 Dec 2018

MET ÉIREANN HAS said that possible stormy conditions could hit the country later this week, as a Status Yellow rainfall warning comes into effect today.

The rainfall warning applies to Counties Wexford, Cork and Waterford and began at 3pm today and is set to last until tomorrow at noon.

Up to 30mm of rainfall is expected in places with locally higher accumulations in upland and coastal areas. Met Éireann said this will lead to spot flooding.

Following on from this, the weather will be more settled for Wednesday, before becoming more unsettled on Thursday evening.

“Rain becoming widespread on Thursday night, accompanied by increasingly windy or possibly stormy conditions for a time as southwesterly gales develop. Lowest temperatures will fall to around 3 to 6 degrees,” Met Éireann said in its forecast.

It will be increasingly cloudy today and temperatures will not go above 4 to 7 degrees. Early tonight frost will develop and temperatures in the north will drop to between -1 and 2 degrees.

Elsewhere, temperatures will remain at 3 to 6 degrees with rain turning heavy in some areas.

Keep the umbrella with you – the rain will continue on and off for the rest of the week, with cold and misty mornings.

With reporting from Cormac Fitzgerald
