Irish lecturer stabbed to death in Paris

The French Minister for Higher Education confirmed that the man had been killed.

AN IRISH LECTURER has been killed in a stabbing in Paris.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of stabbing to death the lecturer outside a university in the Paris suburbs, a police source said.

The police source, confirming a report in the Parisien newspaper to AFP, said the suspect was a former student at the university who was born in Pakistan in 1981.

The Parisien reported that the victim was an English teacher and that he had been stabbed in the throat.

The man was an Irish national who had been teaching at the university for a number of years.

The Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed that it was aware of the case and was providing consular assistance.

Pascal Brouaye – the head of the university – said in an interview with broadcaster LCI that the entire school community was stricken by the event.

“It’s a tragedy that affects the entire community. He was a language teacher who had been here for 20 years and was appreciated by everyone,” Brouaye said.

Frédérique Vidal – the French Minister of Higher Education – confirmed in a statement that a lecturer had been killed at the Pôle Universitaire Léonard-de-Vinci, in the La Défense district in the west of Paris.

Another police source said the knife had been left at the scene.

    Additional reporting on this article….
The suspect is a Pakistani male, 37, who had been expelled from the institution last year.
According to Le Parisien, the assailant had failed his 2017 school year and was not allowed to progress with his studies. He returned to the university around noon on Wednesday and took his revenge, stabbing his former teacher multiple times in the throat in broad daylight.
The teacher greeted his attacker moments before the violent stabbing, a student at the university said. Other students at the scene tried to administer first aid to the dying teacher, but to no avail.
Poor guy had absolutely no idea what was about to unfold.
RIP, a terrible way for anyone to die.

Comment deleted for no reason. The individual who killed the Irish lecturer was an aggressive vicious man. Someone replied to me trying to twist it into something that it wasn’t.. I’m hoping this was the reason it was deleted, which I can understand why, as it’d only turn the replies into something else.

@Acedeuce: the reason it was deleted is that it was outright racism, and completely jumping to conclusions. This incident has all the hallmarks of a crime of passion, not one of terrorism. But you know you just spin it to your bigoted mindset…

This is a horrible thing to happen, unfortunately these crimes seem to be on the increase and some serious research needs to be done to explain what is causing it.My thoughts and prayers are with his family.
