Balbriggan locals 'united in grief' hold candlelit vigil for baby Belle

Baby Belle’s body was found last Saturday morning on Bell’s Beach in Balbriggan.

OVER A HUNDRED local people in Balbriggan held a candlelit vigil last night for a stillborn baby girl -named Belle by gardaí – whose body was found on a north Dublin beach last weekend.

The newborn’s body was found at 10am on Saturday morning on Bell’s Beach in Balbriggan, by a woman who was cleaning the area. It is believed the body was wrapped in some cloth and had been left on the beach not long after it had been born.

Last night locals gathered for a short vigil to remember baby Belle, urging her mother to come forward with one poster reading a “Christmas message”:

Be not afraid to seek medical help. We love you.

Gardaí, along with health and social care professionals have stressed that the mother of Belle is not under any criminal investigation or in trouble, but that she needs to seek medical assistance.

Local Social Democrat representative Garrett Mullan told TheJournal.ie that everyone there last night was “overwhelmingly concerned” for the welfare of the mother.

“It’s hard to get your head around what happened but no one is making any assumptions.

“We can’t imagine what was going on at the time but the turn out last night shows that everyone is concerned for the mother.”

A number of phone calls have been received by gardaí in relation to the discovery, and will be followed up. It is believed that a DNA sample will also be taken from Belle’s body.

Gardaí said that the mother can call them in confidence on 1800 666 111. The National Maternity Hospital can be contacted on 01 6373100. The Tusla 24 hour service can be reached at 0818 776315.

@John Kelly: It’s simple. A rich person is someone who earns more than anyone else in your social circle. So, for PBP voters, its 60k, and for FG/FF, about 150k… on average

all cars pre 2008 (when the change was brought in) are still taxed on engine size…

Therefore the change when implemented (2008) made no difference for people with older cars.

In Ireland during their disaster time with FF even managed to prevent FF bringing in co-living shared apartments which have recently been encouraged again. It’s a party full of ideas that aren’t the same ol’ rhetoric from FF/FG. And it’s not just ideas… Their TDs and senators are well able to get changes through both houses with support from other progressive politicians.

We always remember how the Greens, Labour etc have failed us in govt. And therefore we refuse to vote for them going forward. Yet FF and FG have failed us far more often and continue to do so…and yet get voted into power constantly. Boggles the mind. Too afraid to actually vote opposition parties in and see what they can do. Would prefere to ridicule them and their ability to govern without giving them a chance to do so. When you read the comments and then see how people vote you see us for who we are…a Nation of moaners. Which is why we will vote same crowd in again…so we can continue to moan. We dont want change…just someone to listen to us moaning

We are at a major turning point – Arctic almost gone, Antarctica disintegrating, methane already spewing out of permafrost – on Monday in Arctic Russia it was an insane 31 degree C – yet from US to Australia to Brazil to yellow vests in France, people vote for fossil fuel Govt against climate action. We have about 5 years to sort it out – yet world still gives 5 trillion to fossil fuels and are talking about 2050 as the year of net zero emissions. Despite all the talk its a nice day outside and people just do not get it, that you can go from a livable Earth to a hostile one in a very short time and we are talking about 2100.

Look at the dumb actress who flew from Los Angeles to protest about Climate Change = Doh . Some disrupting Public transport complaining about climate change = Doh

Ok, I get confused reading the comments. So Greens are rubbish, Sinn Fein liars, PBP and rest are socialists and Labour screwed us over. You do realise they are the only alternatives to the FFFG merry go round. If we dont give others a chance to govern we will just get the same again. Too many say how unhappy they are with govt decisions and policies but in same breath ridicule every opposition party. We need change. If we are too narrow minded to give others a chance to govern we wont get it.
