Boy killed by crazed elephant in Vietnam

Local chief says elephants dislike things made of metal, and that the teenager was riding a motorbike at the time of the attack.

A TEENAGE BOY HAS DIED after he was attacked by a wild elephant in southern Vietnam.

The boy, 14, was riding a motorcycle to a jungle fishing area when they were attacked by the animal.

Vice-village chief Ngo Van Son told the PA that the boy was trampled and died from his head and chest injuries yesterday. His stepfather and cousin escaped from the attack without injury.

Son said that although elephants rarely attack people, they are known to dislike things made of metal. He said they had already destroyed several motorbikes.

The animal involved in the attack is believed to have been one of a group of several elephants living in the area.
