DEPARTURES FROM HEATHROW Airport were suspended this afternoon for around an hour after a suspected drone sighting.
Heathrow confirmed that police have been drafted in to deal with the situation but that flights have returned to normal.
The latest incident follows long delays at Gatwick Airport prior to Christmas when suspected drones caused travel chaos for hundreds of thousands of passengers.
A spokesperson for Heathrow said: “We are responding to a drone sighting at Heathrow and are working closely with the Met Police to prevent any threat to operational safety. As a precautionary measure, we have stopped departures while we investigate. We apologise to passengers for any inconvenience this may cause.”

I thought the last one might buck the trend alright. What a disaster. Harsh penalties needed here. I hate the things (when used irresponsibly or intentionally to cause havoc or invade privacy). They are becoming a scurge.
@Seaniecp: Especially seeing as the Police owned the last drones that shut down the airport just before Xmas. The Police should be charged with causing a nuisance.
@Seaniecp: yes, and all around the globe people are finding new ways to use them as I witnessed , this is true , a pizza being delivered to an apartment balcony by the swimming pool in Thailand !
@Seaniecp: no need for harsh measures. They can be easily stopped from flying near airports. So why don’t they? Because there is some reason why the the authorities want to divert attention away from something else

Why don’t they, and other major airports, use the Israel technology to prevent drones fly near the airport. It’s quite simple really. It’s so simple to solve that I suspect there is some ulterior motive behind it

I wonder are the companies that produce drone shields and drone capture technologies responsable for drone sightings therefor scaring the the Airport authorities in purchasing the necessary tech to avoid future issues with rouge drones
