Improvised Explosive Device explodes outside Limerick house

No injuries were caused in the explosion. The bomb disposal team was also called to deal with explosive devices in Kildare.

THE ARMY BOMB disposal team was called to deal with a number of viable Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in Limerick and Kildare today.

Gardaí contacted the Defence Forces team after an IED exploded outside a house at Sean Heuston Place in Limerick city. The team arrived on the scene at 11.20am and carried out a search of the area.

No injuries have been reported and minor damage was caused to the front door of the house.

The scene was declared safe at 12.50pm.

A bomb disposal team was also called to a location on the Edenderry Road, about 1.5 miles outside Rathangan, Co Kildare.

The team arrived on the scene at 11.40am and made a number of viable IEDs safe without the need for a controlled explosion. The devices have been removed for further examination.

That scene was declared safe at 1pm.

Gardaí are investigating the separate incidents.

Can The Journal at least reveal if it is being asked not to pry into all these bomb threats by Gardai? It’s strange, every day it seems we get bomb reports but no detail.

    Hi Aaron,
No, we’re not being asked that. These cases are being investigated by the gardaí – if a person is arrested, charged or brought to court we will report it. And if we have further information about the source of an attack, we will report that too, but we do not speculate on who may or may not have carried out a particular crime.
    Thanks for your comment,
    Susan

Thanks Susan. I guess you guys must be curious too – I hope some publication (or many) will do some investigation behind this. In any other western country this many bombs and threats would be seen as quite the epidemic, I think.

Al Qaeda blow planes up and IRA blow buildings up. They should have a bomb party together.

There have been a lot of these lately. It’s only a matter of time before somebody gets seriously hurt. Are the Gardai getting warnings or just being very fortunate so far? There’s no way of telling if these are drug related/paramilitary/anarchists from any reports I’ve seen.

Would love to know how many of these recent discoveries are related.

I agree, something very worrying going on and we seem to be none the wiser. Can someone organise for some of those 40 journalists who turned up to hear O’Cuiv’s big non announcement today to get busy digging into those IED’s

What’s the bets that theres another one in the morning.

This is getting out of hand. Also seems strange that people are going to such effort but not claiming responsibility to explain why or what they want??
