ANOTHER ELECTION WILL likely be held in Greece as talks to form a coalition government have so far failed to yield any results.
The country’s left-of-centre parties began negotiations yesterday but New Democracy leader Antonis Samaras has already conceded that his party will not be able to come to a tenable arrangement with the anti-bailout group Syriza.
It now falls to the leader of Sryiza, the anti-austerity bloc which gained 52 seats (the second largest share) in Sunday’s general election, to stitch together a coalition.
Although BBC News reports that its leader Alexis Tsipras will meet with both New Democracy officials and outgoing ruling party Socialist Pasok later today, there is little hope that a deal will be reached.
Syriza has said it will only form a government if the austere terms of the bailout package are ripped up.
As both mainstream parties Pasok and New Democracy are described as pro-bailout, commenters have said it is unlikely a coalition will be successfully put together within the three day window.
“Mr. Tsipras asked me to put my signature to the destruction of Greece. I will not do this,” Samaras said when asked about the possibility of the two parties working together. “The country cannot afford to play with fire.”
If no government is formed, the next tranche of the IMF rescue package could be withheld, forcing a default and possible exit from the euro.
Results in the General Election:
As the 300 parliament seats were split between such a wide range of parties with no one group obtaining any sort of controlling power, the country teeters on the brink of political chaos.
Assuming that no coalition can be formed, a second general election will then be held next month.
Markets continue to be spooked by the uncertainty in the eurozone with Asian stock falling this morning.

There are a lot of reports of young children/teens being manipulated into performing suicide bombings, with their families and friends being threatened. I can’t imagine how difficult it must be to be put in that position.
@Steve McMahon-By stopping immigration from this Ideology masquerading as a religion we can at least partially protect ourselves ,-but it’s coming our way for sure under existing conditions.
Erdogan appears to have incredible investigative powers, has definitively solved this one a few hours after the event. Just like the coup, where the entire civil service was gutted a couple of days later.

@Gerry Fallon-The Koran the Islamists use to justify themselves is the same Koran that all other Muslim use and Muslims will not tolerate any revision of its contents saying that the commands of Allah are unalterable.
All Muslims pay the Annual 2.5% ZAKAT Charity tax amounting to over $200 Billion and 1/8th of this is earmarked by Sharia Law for Jihad against non-Muslims and apostates. Watched some of the funerals of the victims on Turkish TV would break your heart so many small coffins …..one of a 3 month old baby . The heartbroken mother who lost 4 of her children said that what stopped her from taking her own life to be with her children was that she had a child still living who needed her.
