Three men arrested in Cork in relation to machete murder of Mikolaj Wilk

Landscape gardener Mikolaj Wilk was subjected to a gruesome attack in his Cork home last June.

THREE MEN HAVE been arrested in the investigation into the murder of Mikolaj Wilk in Co Cork last June.

On 10 June 2018, four men kicked down 35-year-old Wilk’s front door and subjected him to a brutal 10-minute assault with what gardaí believe was a machete. His family were in the house at the time.

His wife Elzbieta suffered serious slash wounds to her arms and hands as she tried to fend off the attackers.

This morning, gardaí carried out a number of searches in the Ballincollig area, and arrested three men, all aged in their 30s.

The three men are being detained at Gurranabraher and Bridewell Garda Stations under the provisions of Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2017.

Previously, gardaí had been liaising with Latvian, Polish and Lithuanian police in their attempts to trace those who gardaí believe killed the popular landscape gardener.

Proportionally there is a huge amount of Eastern europeans in jail in Ireland for violent crimes. There are many good people here from Europe but we are a draw for criminals too unfortunately.

@acallkelly: And criminals emigrate from Ireland too. Plenty of them in Spain and Australia. I don’t get what your point is….

I think Brexit would never have happened if EU countries had the right to refuse other EU immigrants with serious criminal records. There’s enough Irish and British criminals in Ireland and UK as it is. Immigration is great I think but surely controlling it is the biggest no brainer ever

@Paul Donaghy: citizens with a criminal record can be refused entry to another EU country. The UK refused to spend money enhancing their border controls so proper checks are not made.

@Paul Donaghy: We used to get the best immigrants on earth, people who went that extra mile, looking past places London and going where the herd didn’t. They specifically chose Ireland or it chose them.
Nowadays immigrants are being sent here, whether or not it is their preference. Some can’t/won’t/don’t integrate organically so to speak.
They are pawns in some bizarre game started by Peter Sutherland (burn in hell), for reasons best known to him and his masters.
    So are we.
