Facebook to offer new file-sharing feature

Members of Facebook groups will soon be able to upload and share files with other users.

FACEBOOK APPEARS TO be stepping up its battle to become a virtual one-stop shop for online services, as it confirmed the arrival of a new file-sharing feature.

Members of Facebook groups will soon be able to upload and share files with each other. The feature will allow a maximum file size of 25mb, Mashable reports.

It appears similar to the service offered by the widely-used app Dropbox.

However, music files and programme (.exe) files will be excluded from the service in an apparent bid to prevent it being used to infringe copyright.

Facebook confirmed to Business Insider that the service is available to a small number of groups from today. It will be made universally available soon, a spokesperson said.

The Facebook Group features help page appears to give some details of the service. It suggests that users can “share presentations, schedules, documents and many other file types” with other group members.

Stop it now Facebook. What’s next a fragrance? Maybe some branded oversized headphones. A credit card perhaps or maybe a chain of capsule hotels or a cola?

Those oversized headphones are ridiculous! They spent years trying to small ones. I think people look silly and are just trying to get attention.

Or they have really good headphones as they like listening to music properly and not through a little rubbish pair of in-ear headphones?

I LOVE music but I wouldn’t be seen dead wearing a set of those. Oh look at me I’m a music expert… It’s no big feat to be a music fan.

You’ve obviously never tried a set of ‘Bose’ or ‘Bowers and Wilkins’ headphones. Don’t hate on people for wanting to enhance their musical experience… Plus the headphones probably drown out ridiculous judgemental conversations in society, such as yours above. You must have very little to be worrying about if someone else’s choice of headphones gets you all agitated.

I wonder will you be able to just change .mp3 to .doc and then send it and then have the other person change it back…

Poor Kim Dot Com no wonder he got nicked.

I’m delighted to see FB doing this. They are slowly destroying a communications medium that simply worked and met the masses needs. They are trying to be too big of a service provider in order to keep their stock afloat – not really what ol Zuk wanted in the beginning.

Keep all the new bells n whistles coming as it only dilutes it’s purpose and paves the way for something better to dethrone FB.

Btw never avail of the file sharing service. FB owns and retains everything you upload even after you delete it or deactivate your account.

Who care if they own these files? You would have to be awfully vain to think they actually give a shit and will read and distribute it. A program will scan it and the ads you are blind to already will be prompted by it.
